Garret Westlake wanted to continue his running career, but academics came first. With options of Wake Forest, University of Missouri, and Auburn, the P.K. Yonge senior opted to head to the other end of the country and attend the University of Wyoming.

In His Own Words: Garrett Westlake Garrett Westlake Nov 5, 2012

Hey Florida runners, it’s been awhile since I have last blogged. Training has been going very well especially with the recent change in temperature. I prefer colder weather, so I’m really enjoying running right now. We had two weeks off to focus on training that led up to our district race on the 1st.

Hey Florida Runners! I just had one of the last races of my high school cross country career and it feel surreal. All I have left is districts, regionals, and of course state. When I was younger I always dreamed about being a senior and how awesome it would feel to be the oldest, but I dont feel that way anymore.

Hey Florida runners! This week I raced a thet flrunners Invite at the Chain of Lakes Park. It has to be one of my favorite courses, because I usually PR there. It’s such a great atmosphere to be around so many runners from around the state, and also having Adam Goucher there this year as well. My race did not go as I had envisioned it the days leading up to it.

Hey Florida runners! This past weekend I raced at the Alligator Lake invite in Lake City. I raced there last year too and it is one of my favorite courses I have ever run, but this year was quite different than last year. All the rain had caused the course to be extremely muddy and slippery. It was alot of fun though because I have never raced in conditions like that before. I won the race last year and came in second this year, but was the first finisher from Florida. Some teams came down from Georgia and there was some steep competetion there.

Hey Florida runners, first I would like to start off by saying that today is September 11th, and even though it is 11 years later I think that all of the victims should be remebered. I give thanks to all the men and women who gave their lives that day in order to protect and save others. They are my heroes, and my inspiration. Thank you, and you will always have a place in my heart.

Summer has ended unfortunately, but that just means one step closer to the racing season! I'm still getting adjusted to running in the heat of the afternoon, but thankfully the recent storms has allowed the first two weeks of training to be in relatively nice weather.

Scouting Report: P.K. Yonge Boys Todd Grasley Sep 4, 2012

Ever since Garrett Westlake has run for P.K. Yonge as an 8th grader in 2009, the Blue Wave have not finished lower than fifth at the 1A Cross Country Finals. The senior has finished in the top fifteen individually the past three season and will be a contender for an individual title in 2012.

Hi, I'm Garrett Westlake from P.K. Yonge high school in Gainesville, Florida. I'll be starting my senior season with a new coach. I have had four different coaches in my career so far, so it isn't anything new, but in my eyes change is always good, and I'm really looking forward to this season.

Salute To Seniors: Jordan Brown - P.K. Yonge Todd Grasley Jun 26, 2012

It was a great 2011-2012 in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.

Belen Jesuit Leads Colonial, Estero as Top Returning Team Jason Byrne Aug 4, 2011

Belen Jesuit pack a punch this season! Four of their top five return with plenty of firepower to fill in the gap and then some. Elliot Clemente will lead the way (likely for the entire state) with his 15:03 season best from last year, pacing Belen to a 15:58 team average. Colonial and Estero ring in at a somewhat distant but certainly not insurmountable #2 and #3 position in our computer rankings.
