Of the point scorers on that squad, they return all but two members, including sprinters Symone Mason, Shaniya Williams, and Kayla Johnson, as well as jumper Courtney Gibson and are the favorites to bring home the title.

Astronaut Invitational Meet Preview/Virtual Meet Todd Grasley Sep 5, 2014

The Astronaut Invitational has been a staple on the Space Coast for years. Last year's edition was rainy, misty, and didn't make for the best running conditions. Forty-three teams from around Central Florida and the coast will make the trek to Titusville and Chain Of Lakes Park (also the site of flrunners.com Invitational 15). The girl's race will feature two of the top teams in the state in 1A favorite Holy Trinity and 4A favorite Winter Park. In 2013, the Wildcats had five in the top eight to win with 25 points. Those same two boys' teams, also state title contenders in their respective classes, will battle it out as well. Olympia which has a well-rounded program too should finish in the top five in both races.

4A Boys Team Scores: Raiders Ready To Take Back Team Trophy Todd Grasley Feb 1, 2014

When Clayton Washburn won the pole vault in the pouring rain at the 4A state championship last year it sealed the deal for Olympia to claim the team title. It also ended a three year run by St. Thomas Aquinas. The Raiders' girls won, but the boys finished as the 4A runner-up. This year Coach Armenteros' squad is poised to take back the trophy. Rasheed Tatham and Ibraham Dodo along with a strong distace group that won the 4A Cross Country Finals team championship, put them as the favorites in 2014. Olympia, Blanche Ely, Miramar, and Spruce Creek should all battle it out for the second spot on the podium.

Track and Field Top 50: Long Jump Todd Grasley Jan 13, 2014

We continue our list of top returners with the jumps. Rockledge senior Danielle Phillips is one of the most versatile athletes in the state combining her prowess in the hurdles with her success in the long and triple jump. After finishing runner-up at the 2A state championship the past two years, Phillips comes in with the best time in the state for 2014. She is the only jumper to go over 20 feet on the list, a mark she set at last year's Cape Coast Conference Championships. On the boys side, Olympia's Alex Gomez is also a multi-event standout. The 4A runner-up in 2013, he is the lone returnee to soar over 24 feet.

Jim Ryun Invitational: Runners Ride The Wave, Test Out New Racing Format Todd Grasley Sep 22, 2013

The 5th Annual Jim Ryun Invitational had a different flare to it this year. After running last year, on the inaugural Holloway Park course, the meet once again returned, but instead of the standard varsity and junior varsity races, Meet Director Paul White decided on a wave format. Never been done in Florida for a high school race (we believe), each team had their number ones run against each other, two's, three's, all the way down to the number sevens. We have video coverage of every race, every winner, and over 1000 photos of all the action!

Mt. Dora Bible Invitational Recap Ashley Heitling Oct 21, 2012

I did almost all of my long summer runs here and the Mount Dora Bible course has to be one of the hardest in the state. It's hills are grueling and seem to be placed in the worst places. Knowing you have to do two loops of it for it to be a full 5K, is almost as mentally exhausting as it is physically. Thankfully, Saturday at the 39th Mount Dora Bible Invitational the weather was absolutely beautiful with the temperature at a comfortable 75 degrees for both the girls and boy's varsity as well as JV races.

Ralph's Musings: Metro Fresh/Soph Championships Ralph Epifanio Oct 19, 2012

For the vast majority of runners who compete, any rewards of completing a footrace that they might enjoy basically boil down to just two things: an accurate course and post-race results. (As for the latter, one shouldn’t need to provide your own computer.) The rest is gravy. Recently, it seems to me, we’ve seen more and more gravy, and less and less meat. So where’s the beef?

Olympia Overpowers Field At Metro Conference West Championships Josh Cohen Oct 27, 2011

A warm evening at West Orange High School set the stage for the Metro Conference West Championships on Wednesday. To start the meet off, a combined JV race was held that features both boys and girls. In first for the boys was Olympia’s Kevin Knox with a time of 17:47.81. To demonstrate the amazing depth of Olympia’s team, the top 8 finishers for the JV boys’ race were all from Olympia High School and they all went under 20 minutes, the only 8 in this race to do so. Leading for the girls was Mason Kite from Olympia with her winning time of 22:48.85.

Headley Headed For Success Josh Cohen Sep 7, 2011

There are two types of athletes, ones that are good at a single sport, and ones that excel in any athletic challenge you put in front of them. Olympia freshman Emily Headley is the latter. Beginning in elementary school, Emily held a passion for sports greater than any other passion in her life. At age 7, Emily began placing in golf tournaments and by age 8 she was excelling in the game of tennis, but one sport stood above the rest.
