Florida was well represented at the LSU High School Classic in Baton Rouge.
China Reed was a quarter of an inch from qualifying for the Class 4A State Meet in the triple jump last year. She was a quarter inch away. That's an orange slice. That's a pencil grip away, for the visual people out there. She was literally right there at the 4A-Region 3 meet last year.
Several of the state's top athletes traveled west to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the LSU High School Classic. Hurdler Braxton Canady and a handful of girls from the Fast Lane Track Club in West Palm Beach took home individual honors and nationally ranked times.
Nicole Greene climbed up the HJ rankings becoming only the fourth Florida girl to eclipse 6'0". JAC teammate David Bell made his mark on the pole vault rankings, while members of the Fast Lane Track Club set new meet records and brought home gold medals from the Eastern High School Challenge on the campus of UNC.
FEBRUARY 20—Seven Track Clubs—including debutants TMM Track Club from St. Thomas and its counterpart Cheetah’s Tracks—are set to compete against their Tortola rivals in Friday’s Johnny Hassan Relays, the penultimate event of the 2013 Gatorade Development Series.
The competition named in honor of Tahesia Harrigan-Scott saw promising performances in the field—before power went—and on the tack when the lights returned.
JANUARY 13—Eldred Henry wasted no time in getting the Gatorade/Hastings Grant Memorial Development Series off to a flying start during Saturday’s BVI Athletics Association 2013 season opener, that also saw Nelda Huggins and Lakeisha “Mimi” Warner joining him by hitting Carifta Games qualifying marks.
