The 2017 Larry Wooten Invitational Saturday at Traz Powell Stadium will mark the first meet of the year for South Florida middle school athletes. The event named after the long-time coach and timer kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with the 4x800m relay followed by the field events at 9:30 a.m. and start of the running events at 12:30 p.m. We have the latest heat sheets and will have results and coverage of all the action.

The 2016 AAU Cross Country National Championships will welcome over 1,000 athletes to Florida's "cross country playground", Apalachee Regional Park. On the boy's side 550 plus are entered in six races that range in distance from 1K for the 6 & under age group to the full 5K distance for the 15-18 year olds.
This Saturday will feature the 16th running of the middle school division at the FLR Invitational. For those of us who grew up in the twentieth century, "middle school distance running" meant watching the better part of your PE class walk 600 yards as part of the Presidential Physical Fitness test. The kids in this race are not those kids. They are fast - not just fast for middle schoolers, but fast for adults. The top finishers would all be varsity-level high school runners, and some would even be in the mix in a state championship. We've come a long way, baby.
