The Southridge girls finished just six points behind 4A state champions Lakewood Ranch in 2016. It's an impressive feat when you take into account they didn't come in first in any event. Of the point scorers on that squad, they return all but two members, including sprinters Symone Mason, Shaniya Williams, and Kayla Johnson, as well as jumper Courtney Gibson and are the favorites to bring home the title.

The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) reached into Florida and signed one of the state's top hurdlers in Evans senior Jamiah Jackson. Jackson was the 4A Region 1 champion in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles. At the state meet she brought home gold in the 300m distance and was third in the 100's.
The 2013-2014 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature
In the beginning there was Jack, Jack Nason that is, the young Orlando Evans High School Prep, that would lead us out of the Dark Ages of Florida High School Cross Country & Track under the guidance of his Coach Dick Skelton his senior year. He would set standards for all future runners in Florida to try to emulate, including winning six state titles in two years.
It was a great 2012-2013 in both cross country and track across the Sunshine state. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.
It’s the beginning of the playoffs for track & field in Florida. As the 1A & 2A schools are looking at Regional meets, class 3A & 4A are just getting started with their respective district meets. 3A District 5 took place Thursday afternoon at St. Cloud High School; which did an awesome job hosting, their hospitality makes this a great venue to host top notch meets throughout the season. Twelve local teams took to the track to battle for the right to represent their schools in Tampa next week.
Some people were just born fast. Chris Ward, a junior at Orlando Evans, is one of those people. The emerging 400 star has a load of talent, and is ready for a BIG season.
Evans High senior Marcus Postel returns as the top ranked 300 hurdler in the state and put up impressive numbers in the 100 last summer. He anchors an extremely deep Evans squad who hope to challenge Miami Northwestern and take another 4A boys championship this spring.
