The FGCU men’s cross country team has been ranked the third best cross country only school in Division I. FGCU is coming off one of its best season to date, placing 20th at the 2012 NCAA South Regionals.

Representing the FGCU women's team at the NCAA Division I Cross Country South Regional for the second time in program history, senior Barrie Cohen (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional HS) and junior Kelly Perzanowski (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville HS) traveled to Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday to compete at the 6K event hosted by Florida State. Perzanowski came in 101st place and set a school record 22:02.6 in the 6K.

Four years ago, when they hired Cassandra Goodson, Florida Gulf Coast University Men’s and Women’s cross country was given a new life. Evidence of that is easy to find: female athletes that she has coached hold all of the top five school records in the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior class, and two of five (1st and 5th place) in the Senior category. With the men, the evidence of her influence is even more irrefutable: in the 5K (all ten), 4 mile (all), 8K (all ten), 8K Freshman (all 5), 8K Sophomore (all 5), 8K Junior (3 of 5; 1st, 3rd, and 5th,), and 8K Senior (all 5) occurred while she was coach. Today, thanks to the efforts of its now veteran coach, the Eagles are one of Florida’s most promising collegiate running programs.

Off The Trail: A Week in the Life of a Cross Country Runner Oct 19, 2009

The FGCU men’s cross country team is off to one of its best starts in school history. Kyle Brunette, one of just two seniors on the squad, took some time this past week to record a journal of his daily activities. This is Kyle’s account of what it’s like to be a runner on the FGCU cross country team.

Cross Country Finishes 7th, 8th in Hatter Invitational Oct 17, 2009

The FGCU cross country teams participated in the Sodexho Stetson Hatter Invitational on Friday evening. The men finished seventh out of 18 schools, while the women finished eighth out of 20 schools. The races were held at the Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand, Florida.

Men’s Cross Country Wins flrunners.com Invitational Oct 3, 2009

The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s cross country team earned their first team victory of 2009, edging out Nova Southeastern by a single point, 35-36, at the flrunners.com Invitational in Titusville, Florida. The women had a strong showing as well, placing third overall amongst the ten participating schools.

Cross Country Prepares for Mountain Dew Invitational Sep 17, 2009

The Florida Gulf Coast University men's and women's cross country teams will soon be heading out to Gainesville for the 21st Annual Mountain Dew Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida. The meet takes place on Friday, with the women's 5k race starting at 6:30 pm and the men capping off the evening with an 8k race slated to start at 7 pm. The meet will be held on the UF golf course, which is located on campus.

FGCU Cross Country Invitational Date Changed Sep 11, 2009

The new date is Friday, October 23rd, with the men's 5k starting 5:00 PM and the women's two mile starting at 5:30 PM. The inaugural event will be held at Estero Community Park.
