Jenny Simpson Anchors All-Star DMR Squad To World Record Todd Grasley Jan 28, 2017

Olympic bronze medalist Emma Coburn started the women's DMR at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston and it was another Olympic bronze medalist, Jenny Simpson, who anchored the team to a new world record time of 10:40.31. Simpson, an Oviedo High School alumni, ran the 1,600m leg in 4:27.66 to help the quartet break the previous record of 10:42.57, set in 2015.

The Bolles boys finished the 2016 season as the 2A runner-up edging out Satellite by two points. Good news for Coach Rivera and the Bulldogs is that they bring back six of their top seven. They are our top returning team from the 2016 Cross Country Finals followed by Belen Jesuit, Chiles, Bishop Kenny, and a young South Walton team. Seminole County usually produces some of the top cross country athletes in Central Florida and in recent years, the state. That talent was on display at the SAC XC Championships with the likes of Bryce Bell leading the Lyman boys to victory and junior Daniela Urzua running 18:23.94 to overtake freshmen Elayna Bahr of Winter Springs and Ashley Klingenberg of Lake Brantley. Billy Simpson was on-site and captured all the race videos as well as an interview with boys champion Bryce Bell.

Tyler Copeland was on-site at the Seminole Athletic Conference XC Championship in Lake Mary to witness the areas top athletes go head to head and captured this photos of the start of the girl's varsity race as they headed from the start on the football field into the park for the majority of the race. Jenny Simpson made history Tuesday night becoming the first American woman to win a medal in the 1,500m run. Simpson (Barringer), a 2005 graduate of Oviedo High School, and multiple state champion in the Sunshine State, stood her ground in a slow and tactical race early on. With 400 meters to go, Simpson made her move and kicked her way to a third place finish and time of 4:10.53 behind Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia, the 2015 world champion and world record holder at 1,500m (4:10.27), and champion Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya (4:08.92)
