The ladies of Miami Northwestern are a powerhouse track and field program not just in the state of Florida, but nationally as well. Two schools, two years. To say Juan Paul Green's track and field career has been a journey is an understatement. Green, a standout quarter miler at Carol City High School in Miami, ended his high school days with runner-up finishes at the 3A state meet and Golden South Classic. He says graduating from high school and getting a college scholarship to run at the University of Illinois not only made him proud, but his parents as well.
Miami Carol City hurdler Darrell Butler stayed close to home when it came time to make his college decision. The 4A state champion in the 300 meter hurdles picked the University of Miami over offers from Central and Eastern Michigan.
The Louie Bing Classic is always a star studded affair for the short stuff and the jumps and that's basically because Miami teams typically dominate these events and all the big guns come out for it. This year was no exception and our leaderboard of a week's worth of state rankings was completely rewritten by this meet for just about every event 800 meters and shorter, boys and girls. Last year's much lauded middle school sensation Robin Reynolds officially became a freshman phenom, opening her high school career with Miami Jackson. She earned three golds and a bronze in the two-day meet.
