St. Thomas Aquinas junior Nicholas Rischar won his third race in a row and first regional title in his career at the 4A-4 championship in Miami with a time of 16:14.89, just shy of his personal best. The Raider boys won in dominating fashion with 26 points, a 36 second 1-5 split, and a team average of 16:41.00. Braddock edged out Ferguson for the runner-up spot by ONE point 101-102.
Over two dozen teams traveled to Larry and Penny Thompson Park in Miami for the 305 Classic. Our South Florida correspondent Eddie Romero was on-site and captured all the race video and interviews from the afternoon section that included wins by Key West's Nicole Matysik and Cavan Wilson of Coral Gables.
The American Heritage boys 4x100m relay team of Marco Wilson, Khalil Herbert, Patrick Surtain, and Anthony Schwartz set the bar high for the rest of the state's teams when they ran 40.95s to win the Pepsi Florida Relays. Coral Gables and Columbus came close with times of 41.13 and 41.14, while Northeast and Pine Forest clocked 41.20 on the nose. Check out the top 500 boys 4x100m relay teams for the 2016 season.
As a two-sport student-athlete, I never really have an "off-season". Some of my comrades in the sports world understand this quite well. However, I have grown to understand my body and how to calm it by not thinking so much about my next competition. I can usually accomplish this by sketching or researching some issue on the Internet.
Very similar to last year's 4A Region 4 Championship where there were many of the top individuals and teams from the State all going head-to-head with each other, this year's version of the same meet followed in the exact same suit...
