Calvary Christian (Ft. Lauderdale) senior Tayler McDuffie is a huge asset to their success as she is one of the top throwers in 2A right now. Last year she placed sixth in the shot put in the 1A State Finals with a throw of 37"0'. Since then she’s increased her personal best by five feet. McDuffie, a University of Central Florida signee is the 2A District 15 shot put winner, and Region 4 runner-up, and is projected to finish second at the 2A state meet.
Calvary Christian (Fort Lauderdale) senior Amanda Gale and Plantation American Heritage senior Jerimy Strainge are this week's Athletes of the Week. Gale picked up her first state title in the pole vault, clearing a new personal best mark of 12'6". Gale finished runner-up to her sister Emily last year. Strainge opened up eyes at the 2A State Finals, when he ran a blistering 20.97, US#8 time in the 200 meters to win the state title. He then ran an incredible leg on the team's 4x400 meter team helping them achieve gold. He did this after a three year absense due to injury.
Emily Gale is one of the nation’s top pole vaulters. The senior at Miami (Fl.) Calvary Christian School is the reigning Florida Class 1A state champion in the event. Throughout her senior year, she has dominated at competitions across the state. In short, she should be a shoo-in to repeat. (via Yahoo! Sports)
