Okaloosa: Howell, Mosley Individual Champs, FWB Takes Team Trophies
Thomas Howell and Marsel Mosley of Niceville claim individual honors, but it's not enough to lead their teams past Fort Walton Beach in the team standings. -
Warrior of the Week: Iglesias, Chastain
Pembroke Pines Charter sophomore Andrew Iglesias is making a name for himself in South Florida. Iglesias ran a person best time of 15:39.79 to finish tenth in the boys elite race at the Pre-State Invitational and follows it up with his second sub 16 minute performance and a win at the BCAA Championship. Fort Walton Beach junior Ivy Chastain has quickly emerged as one of the top runners in the Panhandle after placing fourth at the Panhandle Championships with a time of 18:12.58. Although tiny in stature, her coach believes come November she will be on the podium at the state meet. -
Fort Walton Boys, Chiles Girls Take Home Gold At Panhandle Championships
The best of the best from Florida's panhandle headed to Marianna for the Panhandle Cross Country Championships. The Fort Walton Beach boys and Chiles girls took the team trophies. Lily Williams of Chiles and Nicholas Morken of Niceville won individual honors. -
Belen Jesuit Leads Colonial, Estero as Top Returning Team
Belen Jesuit pack a punch this season! Four of their top five return with plenty of firepower to fill in the gap and then some. Elliot Clemente will lead the way (likely for the entire state) with his 15:03 season best from last year, pacing Belen to a 15:58 team average. Colonial and Estero ring in at a somewhat distant but certainly not insurmountable #2 and #3 position in our computer rankings. -
FSU Relays: Baton Drops, Photo Finishes, and Motivation
There was a lot of action this at this weekend's biggest meet and the FSU Relays in Tallahassee fortunately lived up the substantial hype it had built up. There were emotional highs and lows, like the Ft. Walton Beach boys 4x800 team. After running a would-be state pole position 8:06 last week at a small, unreported local meet they motivated to officially claim the #1 spot in the state with a big performance. After a good start, the baton was dropped and rolled into lane 5 seemingly dashing those hopes. But with a quick recovery and a quick leg, they pulled it off and claimed the position of new state leaders with a four second victory--the first sub 8 performance in Florida so far this year. -
FSU Relays: High School Friday Highlights
What an amazing Boys 3200 race that we just witnessed! 10 guys guy under 9:20, 6 under 9:10 with Barker and Mizereck battling it out the the final 200m all the way to the line. Mizereck Nips Barker @ FSU Relays 3200, 9:02.87 to 9:03.03. Pablo Alvarez, Kayla Parker, Ft. Walton Beach, Jana Stolting, and others also had some great showings.
