In Her Own Words: Stefanie Kurgatt

Hello everybody.  It’s been awhile, but lucky I have the pleasure of blogging for Flrunners again for track season. I hope you guys aren’t too sick of me yet.I am quite excited to blog again because I am healthy, strong, and back to competing. So far track season has definitely started off with a bang. I have been doing some indoor meets to get back into racing form since I missed cross country.

Last week was quite the week for me (one of the best weeks ever)!!!! I signed my national letter of intent to OFFICIALLY become a Georgetown Hoya. I cannot begin to tell you how exciting it was. It was a little hard to believe that it was actually real, but I was so happy knowing that all the hard work at Maclay has and is paying off. I am so blessed to attend such a wonderful school. They have presented me with such wonderful opportunities and I am truly thankful. Also my family, teammates and friends have been there through thick and thin, so thank you everybody for all the faith and all the cheering during races. It means so much to me. I can’t forget to congratulate everyone who has signed there NLI’s and for everyone who is about to. Congrats, every single one of you deserves it and you should be proud. Keep up the hard work.

My signing was Wednesday, that was just the beginning of an awesome weekend. I got invited to Seattle for the Brooks Pr Invitational. What an honor it was. It was one of the best experiences I have had thus far. From the time I left Tally on friday, to the time I left Seattle on Monday I was just full of excitement (but of course the flight back was a little tiring). Brooks treated us so well and we are so thankful and blessed.

I will give you a little brief rundown of how amazing it was. Okay, so the minute I got there, I was taken to the Brooks gear room, was handed a bag, and then proceeded to get it filled with a bunch of new gear. Everything you need for running, I got. It was Christmas for me, and boy was I pumped. Saturday we went on a duck tour, did the Harlem Shake and ate in the Space Needle. Then Sunday I got to race against the top girls in the nation. I competed in the 800m and placed eighth. I also got to watch the top runner’s race. It was the most amazing thing ever. I felt like a true elite athlete, and had so much fun out on the Dempsey track. One of the best parts was being with one of my best friends Deja Parrish, I love that girl. We have become so close ever since Puerto Rico and now I’m one of her biggest fans. Also, the amount of new friends I made through this was pretty amazing. These are some of the greatest athletes in the nation, and the relationships formed will only last a lifetime. Thank you Brooks.

I can only say how blessed I am to have all these wonderful experiences. It has been a wonderful start thus far, and I cannot wait to continue updating everyone on all the new experiences and the about my last high school track season ever. When I think about it, it is a very bitter sweet feeling. Catch you guys out on the track.

As Brooks running would say, “Happy Running.” Also, GO HOYAS and God Speed.
