Lake Brantley Invitational: Whitney Shines In High School Debut

Freshman Kaylin Whitney has been around for years in the AAU and middle school circuit, but the Lake Brantley Invitational marked her first ever high school race. The East Ridge star didin't disappoint clocking times of 11.95 in the 100 and 24.05 in the 200 to pick up the win. Stefani Kerrison of Jones sweeped the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and also finished second in the high jump. Dr. Phillip's senior and UF signee Amber Johnson was the lead leg for the Panthers winning 4x800 meter relay team and then came back to win the 1600 meter run in 5:15.00. Teammate Bridget Blake a FSU signee anchored that relay and won the 3200 in 10:52.00. Erica Sargeant of Lake Mary matched her season best pole vault of 12-6 to win that event. The Rams took the team title with 100 points over Jones (76), Winter Park (73.5) and Dr. Phillips (73).

A lot of the great boys races were in the mid distance and distance events. The 1600 meter run came down to a battle between Connor Ferrentino of Freedom and John Lindsey of Winter Park. Ferrentino picked up the win 4:23.34 to 4:24.36. Timber Creek freshman Brandon Marquez was third in 4:28.84.  The quarter mile was a battle between cross town rivals Reggie Glover of Dr. Phillips and Brylan Slay of Winter Park. Both have seen each other before this season. The duo dipped under 48 with Glover getting the win in 47.59 to Slay's 47.81.  The 800 was a hard fought race as well. Lindsey again looking for the "W" but was edged out at the line by Jones' Joshua Simpkins 1:59.18 to 1:59.31. Lindsey and Slay teamed up to give the Wildcat's a fourth place finish in the 4x800 and the overall win in the team standings with 85 points. Jones was second with 79 points while host Lake Brantley was third with 55.
