In Her Own Words: Kendall Ellis

Hey guys I'm back again. Like I said last week,  eleven girls from the St. Thomas High School track team flew over to Texas for the Texas Relays. The trip was so much fun and a great experience.

First off, the atmosphere and environment was a professional one. Everything was organized, precise, and efficient. The officials had races exactly on time, so much so that they actually had to hold people at the line just so they could start at the exact start time listed. We got to see college and professional runners perform which was interesting to watch since my teammates and I could be in that position ourselves in a few years. Of course my favorite part of the trip would have to have been meeting Sanya Richards-Ross. At first security wouldn't let us in to see her, but as soon as Sanya heard that her alma mater St. Thomas was in the building, she insisted that we all come take a picture together. We also got to see an old friend and teammate Arman Gino Hall. It was pretty cool to see an old teammate advance to the college level and run on a world leading 4x4.

The St. Thomas Aquinas team came to Texas and showed out. We represented Florida very well, first in the 4x8, fourth in the sprint medley, fourth in the 4x2, seventh in the distance medley, and first in the 4x4 with a nation leading time. Even though we dropped the baton in the 4x1, it was still a good race and all performed well including a new 11 minute PR from our 3200 meter runner. Overall, the trip was a lot of fun and we spent a good amount of time bonding with the coaches and teammates.

Now this weekend we have the FL Relays in Gainesville. I'm excited since I get to be on the 4x1 again which is a rare occurrence for me. I also can't wait to see college competitors run. Just like in Texas, my team should do very well as well as have some fun along the way. Now for me it's still spring break. Not much of a spring break though since I was in Texas and leave again for Gainesville plus practice in between. But that's alright because the road to states is getting shorter and shorter and I appreciate all the practice I can get. Comment and let me know how you spent your spring break. At the track? At the beach? What'd you do?

As always, go for the gold and best of luck in your training and meets!
