In Her Own Words: Kendall Ellis

Hi everyone! This weekend was absolutely amazing. The team participated in the Florida Relays and we showed out to the max. On the girls side, we won every single relay we participated in, including the 4x1, 4x2, distance medley, 4x8, and 4x4. We completely swept the meet and the 4x4 relay broke our national record that we just set last week in Texas.

As for the events I participated in, I was a little reluctant about being on the 4x1 initially, but once I got on the line, I was really excited. It was a blessing to be part of a #5 U.S ranked relay. The 4x2 is always interesting to do since it’s only included at a few meets. We were so close to breaking the meet record, but no worries we’re coming back for it next year. Regarding the 4x4, my pre-meet jitters had never been worse but I love that race so much and was really hyped about running it. Overall, the results of the meet really showed the girls’ hard work so far this season. Last year FL Relays wasn’t the best or worst meet for the girls, but we definitely redeemed ourselves this time. The girls track team has truly stepped it up this year in an attempt to become state champions, the first time since 2005.

Already prestigious in itself, the FL Relays was filled with Olympians. Dee Dee Trotter, Tony McQuay, Natasha Hastings, and Ryan Lochte just to name a few. The place was teeming with successful athletes out to watch and compete in the meet. One of my favorite aspects of the FL Relays is getting the chance to watch collegiate and professional athletes perform. The times they hit are inspiring, along with their oftentimes exemplary technique and form.

As it gets closer and closer to states, it’s really great to have a week off from meets and just be able to solely focus on practice. Since I didn't get much of a spring break, I’m looking forward to this week for one main reason: no meet! I’m trying to cram in as much as I can and enjoy my free weekend to the fullest, of course while prepping for districts. States is just around the corner!

I hope everyone has a productive week, don't forget to go for gold, and best of luck in your meets and training.
