Mt. Dora Bible Girls, First Academy Boys Dominate At 1A District 7



The small schools started the postseason this past weekend as district competition got under way. Mark Winz and Darrell Laxton were on-site at Montverede Academy for the 1A District 7 meet. Check out their awesome photos as well as the elite performances.

The First Academy boys came into town and cleaned house. Junior Kwad Smith swept the sprints posting personal bests of 10.72 and 21.51 in the 100 and 200. He also led off the Royals winning 4x100m relay team, and finished third in the long jump with a leap of 20-11. Teammate Lloyd Hylton finished behind Smith in the 100 and 200, finished first in the long jump, and ran a leg on the 4x1. Thrower Colton Plante swept the throws and the hurdles, winning the shot put, discus, 100 and 300 meter hurdles, good enough for forty points. Those three combined for an outstanding 102 points. The Royals won easily with 187 points.

Circle Christian looked good in large part to their distance crew of Joseph Ault. Jordan Foster, and Jeffrey Henry. Ault won the 800 while Foster and Henry finished second in the 1600 and 3200 respectively behind Mt. Dora Bible junior Troy Clark. Clark's Bulldogs finished second behind TFA. Jumper Austin Warren had a big day winning the high jump over defending state champion Justin Jack of OCP with a leap of 6-02. He also took home the triple jump title and finished second in the long jump to score some valuable points for MDB.

On the girls side, Wildwood senior Unique Smith started off her afternoon with a second place showing in the long jump. Smith picked up two wins before the day was over taking home the 100 and 200 meter titles. The versatile athlete of the meet award goes to Jessie Hiteshew. Hiteshew, a freshman at Mt. Dora Bible won the discus, finished fifth in the show put, third in the 300 hurdles, and ran a leg of the school's winning 4x100 meter relay. Another Mt. Dora Bible freshman had a big day, Cape Monn. Monn was on the schools winning by 4x1 and 4x4 teams, won the 100 meter hurdles, and finished third in the high jump. In the distance events their teammate Christina McKinney was on the runner up 4x800 meter relay team, finished second in the 1600 meter run, and took home the district title in the 3200 meters. Mount Dora Bible took the team title easily with 182 points. The First Academy was second with 138 points.
