Former Lake Wales and UCF sprinter Octavious Freeman has turned professional. According to Icon Management President and CEO Kimberly Holland as well as Freeman's step dad Stan Smith, the sophomore will be represented by Icon Management. A contract has yet to be reached, but talks with several shoe companies are in the works. Icon Management which has a very impressive cliental of professional track and field athletes, including, Jeshua Anderson, Will Claye, Brenda Martinez, Lashawn Merritt, Duane Solomon, Jeneba Tarmoh, Angelo Taylor, and many more, made it official with Freeman following her performance at the USA Championships.

Freeman is coming off a personal best time of 10.87 in the 100 meters which earned her a runner-up finish at the USA Championships and a spot on the national team when it heads to the World Championships in Russia. As a sophomore, she was second in the 100 meter dash at the NCAA Championships and seventh in the 200. She placed third in the 60 as well as the 200 indoors. As a freshman outdoors, she was fifth in the 100, and fourth in the 200.  She has been an integral part of the Knight's recent success and national finishes. After her recent success, and coach Caryl Smith Gilbert's move to USC, the decision to turn professional seemed it would be an easy one.

We will have more of this story and keep you posted as soon as Freeman does sign an official contract.
