2013 Track & Field Athlete of the Year: Lloydricia Cameron - Girls Field Events

There is no doubt Florida is one of the most talented states in the country when it comes to track and field. We wanted to honor the best of the best with our 2013 Track & Field Athlete of the Year Awards. Lloydricia Cameron of Miami Northwestern is our winner in the Girls Field Event category. Cameron dominated the throws finishing first in both the shot put and discus in eleven of the thirteen meets she competed in.

In 2012, as a sophomore Cameron finished first in the shot put and second in the discus. As a senior, she worked on her strength and technique with coach Carmen Jackson and vastly improved in the circle. In the discus her personal best increased by nearly four feet going from 42-4.25 to 46-3. Her shot put saw a rapid growth as well moving up nearly ten feet from 150-0.5 to 159-5. The junior picked up her second and third state titles by taking the shot put and discus. She then went onto sweep those events at the Golden South Classic, and Caribbean Scholastic Invitational in Puerto Rico. At New Balance National Outdoors she placed sixth in the shot and second in the disc. Eleven days later she punched her ticket to the World Youth Championships in Ukraine by winning the discus with a very impressive mark of 158-5.

While most of the state is done competing Cameron will look to put the exclamation point on a stellar junior season against the world's best in Ukraine. Expect her to pick up two more state titles in 2013 and lead Miami Northwestern to another team championship. When all is said and done she could go down as one of the top female throwers the state has seen.

Congratulations to Lloydricia Cameron our 2013 Track & Field Athlete of the Year for Girls Field Events!
