Salute To Seniors: Rayvaun Tyler - Oak Ridge High School

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race would have to be when I became the Metro East 100 meter champion. It’s wasn’t a fast time but none the less it was a great experience.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

My biggest competition would have to be Wallace Swift. We’ve gone back and forth our whole high school career, and we have become great friends as well.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment would have to be making it into the top three 200 meter times ever to be ran at my school.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would do more physical therapy and strengthening exercises the summer going into my senior to get my legs strong and healthy.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

One of the most difficult obstacle I’ve have to overcome is the dealing with not being able to run my senior year because of my torn hamstring.

What will you miss the most?

I am definitely going to miss my teammates and my coaches.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

I would have to say take warming up, cooling down, stretching, and taking care of your body seriously to prevent and injuries.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach Odeika Ben, has helped me with my performance greatly. My races are becoming more technically sound and she has been there throughout my whole injury. She is also a good friend that I can run to when I need someone to talk to on a personal level.

What are your college plans?

I will be running track at Northwood University and I will also be studying accounting.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank God for allowing me to receive a scholarship even though I wasn’t able to run my senior year. I want to thank all my coaches I’ve had my whole high school career, Odeika Bent, Jerry Williams, and Linnie Yarbrough. They all are great coaches and even better friends and mentors. Also, my friends and family who supported me all the way. Lastly, Coach Miller the sprint coach at Northwood for giving me the chance to bounce back next year compete in college.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I am so grateful to have been able to run track and field especially in the great state of Florida where there is so much competition. It was a wonderful experience.
