Pitt Panthers Perfect Fit For Brylan Slay

Whirlwind. That's how the recruiting process was for Winter Park's Brylan Slay. The senior admits he wasn't prepared for the amount of schools that would be recruiting his services. At the Disney Track & Field Showcas, Slay clocked a personal best time of 47.43 for 400 meters, the 8th fastest in Florida, and 43rd best time nationally. Clemson, Auburn, TCU, Georgia were some of the schools in contention, but in the end it was the University of Pittsburgh that won him over.

"I chose Pitt because I feel like i have a good group of teammates i could work with. I also felt  their coaching staff could really help me evolve into a pro runner some day. It's a really good place for me."

Slay dabbled in the 200 as well as the relays this year for the Wildcats. His colleges coaches have told him that since he has shown so much range in races that they would like to use him in the 4x1, 4x4, 200, and 400 throughout his career. The future Panther says he hopes to focus on the 400 meter when it comes time for nationals and is excited to start running at the next level.

"I'm so relieved the process is over. It was a stressful time figuring it out, but I know I'm in the right place. I start school August 18th and just like at Wnter Park my goal is to break records and beat somebody, like my old coach always says. I want to become one of the best."
