In Her Own Words: Alex Eaton - Summer Training

Hey everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your summer and filled it with miles. For those of you who don't know me, my name is Alex Eaton and I'm a senior at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg. I have run cross country since 7th grade, and I absolutely love it. Last year I placed 3rd at 1A state finals. My PR last year was 18:18. I had a great summer, and I made running a big part of it. I ran around 50-60 miles a week, and got some good speed and hill training in there each week.

My teammates were out of town a lot, so i mostly ran with my local running club, the Forerunners. I ran with a few super fast young dads who were better than me and thus pushed me really hard, and an Ironwoman champion who could also kick my butt on a long run. i am so thankful i had the opportunity to train with such talented (and entertaining) people. On days I didn't do hard workouts with the Forerunners, I allowed myself to sleep until late so I would run at the hotter part of the day (like noon) in attempt to make myself stronger. That was really tough, but I got through it and think it will help me this year.

Furthermore , I got the opportunity to start a fitness/running club at my local Police Athletic League (PAL). I went three times a week and did a half an hour with younger boys then girls of fun fitness games (I call this club Fitness Fun Club). Then, I ran/walked/jogged with the middle school girls. We trained for a 5k and will complete it in August 24th. This club is called PAL's Gals. PAL was so fun such a great experience and I encourage others to try to get involved with their local PAL.

I finally got reunited with my teammates at our first practice, Monday, August 5th. I love my team like family so I was really happy to see them all again. We have a lot of fun practicing together. What a great way to end summer.

My teammates are in great shape and I can't wait to see what they can do this year. We also have some new talent coming in, so that is exciting for us.

Summer is over and here comes the best part of the year. . . cross country season!
