In His Own Words: Nick Morken

What’s up flrunners.com? My name is Nick Morken and I’m going into my senior year at Niceville High School up here in the Panhandle. First, I’d like to thank Todd Grasley for letting me share my thoughts with you for the upcoming cross country season. I hope you enjoy it.

Summer is coming to a close in around two weeks so I hope you made the most of it. Mine has been filled with what else….. running. I started off the summer with a family trip to Indiana where I averaged around 45 miles or so, which is normal for this time in the season. It was great to see the family again, but the week after I was scheduled to attend Smoky Mountain Running Camp. It was my seconnd year I made the trip and I enjoyed it just as much as my first year. Stationed at the UNC-Asheville campus, SMRC was very challenging (thanks to camp legend Everett Whiteside). Here I logged about 70 miles with a little pace/tempo work thrown in there. The camp was great and I met so many good runners and learned a lot.

After camp I resumed practice with the team. I missed the squad so it was good to be back with them. They are looking very strong this year and I expect us to improve on our 12th place finish from last year in Tallahassee. I personally haven’t set any individual goals so far this year. I just want to go out there, run fast, and enjoy my last year as a Niceville Eagle.

As the upcoming school year approaches I hope everyone survived the “Trial of Miles” which is summer training because it will show later in the season. Good luck to everyone and I will see you out on the course.

P.S. Thank you Coach Eller for your continued support. I greatly appreciate it.
