Mauldin girls win in Charlotte, Lovelace seals win at Disney


Mauldin junior Alyssa Kulik finished in the number three spot in the girls invitational race at Wendy\'s Invitational in Charlotte.

Kulik covered the 5,000-meter McAlpine Park course, home of Footlocker South, in 18:11. Kulik reached the two mile mark in 11:34 (source: Ben Hovis, ncrunners.com). The Mavericks sealed the team victory over Chapel Hill 54-125.

Also placing in the top 10 for Mauldin was Alexa Neiling (5th, 18:36) and Hannah Morgan (8th, 18:48). Spartanburg junior Santresa Jamison finished ninth in 18:50. Spartanburg placed sixth in team standings.

Broome junior Stefan Shealy competed in the boys class AAA event with a top three time of 15:31, the fastest finisher from South Carolina.

In the boys invitational race Fort Mill senior David Willis led the way for South Carolina with a sixth place time of 15:37. Fort Mill\'s Mark Blackmon, a seventh grader, placed ninth in 15:47. As a team Fort Mill missed the title by three points to Chapel Hill.

Lone Mann competitors Kate Borowicz and twin sister Emma sealed the top two spots in the girls individual race. Kate covered the course with the fastest South Carolina time of the day in 18:06.73. Emma was second in 19:16.61.

In the girls open 5,000 Rock Hill sophomore Hannah Robinson placed sixth in 19:36. Northwestern junior Mark Kate DuBard was 10th in 20:06. Hilton Head was fifth in team scoring, Eastside sixth, and Northwestern placed seventh.

Stuart McDaniel, a senior at Northwestern, led the Trojans to the team victory with a 16:03 winning time to Northern Durham\'s Zach Schoenfeld (16:12). McDaniel\'s teammate Jonathan McGinnis rounded out the top three in 16:25. Placing fourth was Hilton Head\'s Dominic Desantis (16:29). The Trojans tallied 38 team points to Weddington\'s second place total of 113.

Fort Mill\'s Kevin Coleman led the way for Yellow Jackets with a sixth place time of 17:23 in the freshman-sophomore boys race. Teammate Dennis Randar was eighth in 17:26. In the junior-senior event, Fort Mill\'s Jarred White placed ninth in 17:21.

Chapin, Irmo compete at Disney Classic
Chapin junior Luke Lovelace sealed the win at the Disney Classic in 15:56. Lovelace, a junior, finished 44 seconds ahead of West Boca Raton\'s (Fla.) Mike Burke (16:40.16) in class AAA competition. In team scoring, Chapin was fourth (134).

Chapin senior Nicole Maitland placed 13th overall in girls class AAA race in 20:14.20, leading the Eagles to a second place finish. Carmel (N.Y.) was first with 53 points. Ashlyn Ruzcko (15th, 20:18.26), Claudia Nunez (18th, 20:34.18), Laura Hernandez (20th, 20:36.27), and Jordan Broadway (25th, 20:49.81) were the top five finishers for Chapin.

Gammon first at Electric City, Haughey doesn\'t compete
Daniel\'s Stephanie Gammon covered the 5,000-meter course at the Electric City Classic in 18:26 to take the win over teammate Erica Segars 19:14. Seneca\'s Tameka Jackson placed third in 19:25. Daniel scored 31 points over Seneca (111).

Wade Hampton\'s Dusty Bateman (1st, 16:43) and Morgan Bateman (2nd, 16:56) led the Generals to the team title in boys competition. The Generals tallied 62 points to Hanna\'s second place 113 score. Hanna\'s Darin Mattison was third overall in 17:06.
