DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - With the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats set to host the fourth annual B-CU Beach Invitational, junior men's team leader Ricy Brown is looking forward to a greater push as he takes on the hard-packed sands of south Daytona Beach this weekend.

After two years as the consistent leader for the cross country team, including top finishes among the Wildcats' runners in each of his meets last season, pacer Brown has started to see greater competition, not from opposing runners, but within his own squad. New additions to the squad are not only improving his performances, but also the team finish.

“You can only get so much faster if you don't have anybody pushing you,” Brown said in an interview with B-CU Athletic Communications. “Now we have a few other people that are right up there with me, and I feel like I'm going to get pushed.”

One of the newcomers highlighting the list is sophomore transfer Daniel Ketter, who debuted two weeks ago at Florida A&M's Bobby Lang Invitational. The results showed Ketter finishing one position below Brown, but Brown says the results don't tell the whole story.

“During the race, you say he was right behind me, but the whole time he was right in front of me,” Brown said. “He's still a little fatigued right now. As he's getting in shape, we're going to get stronger together.”

With Ketter putting in three weeks of team practice, Brown expects a fight to the finish in B-CU's meet on Friday.
