Race Recap

Alligator Lake Park is known for being a great course to earn new personal bests, and in that regard it certainly did not disappoint on Saturday. And with over 1,600 atheltes signed up it was also the biggest field in the short but impressive history of this meet.

In the boys invitational division especially, the times were dropping low like an Ester Dean music video. Sukhi Kholsa of Leon established himself as the early leader, going through the mile mark with about a five second lead over Nick Morken of Niceville. From there Kholsa would do nothing but extend his margin and the rest of the leaders didn't shuffle positions too much.

Kholsa crossed the line in a huge course record time of 15:08.62. Niceville teammates Morken and Thomas Howell were about 20 seconds back. Mark Robertson (Pensacola Washington), Cade Zimmerman (Chiles), Noah Kemp (St. Augustine), Joseph Janson (PK Yonge), and Eric Tallabacka (Stanton Pre) all notched times under the 16-minute barrier.

Chiles handled a strong challenge from Harrison, Georgia with a 73 point victory by seven points. Helped by Kholsa's single point, Leon upset Niceville and Ft. Walton Beach 120-139-141.

In the Girls Invitational division, the junior duo of Audrey Carpenter and Elizabeth Mulford pushed the early pace out well. Emma Rudman of Ft. Walton Beach and Avery Bussjager of Walton Georgia refused to be shaken, staying close on their heels. Rudman eventually took over the lead for good and got a little bit of breathing room as she broke the tape six seconds before Bussjager in 18:40. Carpenter was third in 18:55, and Mulford hung on for fourth place in 19:26--fighting off Ponte Vedra's Isabella Poole five second back.

Rudman's Ft. Walton Beach put five across before anyone else managed four to easily secure the win with 55 points over Harrison GA (75). Walton GA, Niceville, and Ocala Vanguard rounded out the top five girls teams.
