FACA Official Cross Country Rankings #5 *Updated*

The regular season has just about come to a close and after this week's Pre-State Invitational there shouldn't be much of a debate as to who the top teams and individuals are around the state. So after this strong performance weekend with plenty of great head-to-head match-ups, let's take a look at the final regular season cross country rankings of the season! FYI, the last two sets will be a Pre-Region Ranking / Preview, and a Pre-State Ranking / Preview.

Girls State Rankings by Classifications:

1A Girls Rankings
By: Nathan Means, Mount Dora Bible School, nathan.means@chbs.org

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Holy Trinity has taken a commanding lead after besting Oak Hall two weeks in a row at Great American and FSU.  Providence remains a consistent and solid third.  Shorecrest moves back up on a 1-2-3 finish and team victory in St. Pete.  Maclay's strong showing at FSU pulls them back into the rankings.  Team averages are the best, recently available numbers for a single meet by each team.  If you're not getting better every week, you're getting passed up by someone who is!

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Grace Casagrande keeps the #1 spot, just four seconds ahead of Julie Wollrath at FSU.  A few girls really came on strong at FSU and now everyone is not only under 20 minutes, but significantly under 20 minutes.  Again, only the best times of the last three weeks were considered - you have to stay on your game to stay in the list!

2A Girls Rankings
By: Mike Becker, Ransom Everglades, mbecker@ransomeverglades.org

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Now its getting clearer and juicier.  It’s a two horse race with a month to go for first and a two horse race for third, but lots of challengers for the 5th thru tenth.  Pine Crest puts three under Bolles ( and a fourth close), but cannot come close ( at least yet) to Bolles' dominant pack.  Bolles has now defeated PC twice ( and has 12 runners capable of beating other teams' fifth but I expect a real battle next time they meet. Ransom and Carrollton continue to alternate places.  Ransom gets the nod this week after finally having their number 2 runner come through.  Carrollton still has injured girls who may return.  West Florida Tech was "off" at Tallahasse, but  still expect them to be "in the money". Do not penalize teams (Titusville)who didnt go to Talahassee.  That course was ridiculously fast last week.  After Districts,  I will rank all advancers.  It seems pretty spread out this year, so no top 15 team will get left out of state

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Bolles (1) Continues its mastery over AA Schools
2. Pine Crest (2) Can match up 1-3 wityh anyone in state, can mathc up thru 4 with Bolles, but can these guys develop a stronger fifh on short notice
3. Ransom Everglades (4) Improving, and leader of the race for thrid at the moment
4. Carrollton (3) Considering they are missing two runners they were counting on this season, a great place to be
5. Bishop Kenny (6) Have some work to do with top runners if they want to get top 3. But a very respectable packas always
6. West Florida Tech (5) Finsihed right behing BK this past weekend, but on paper can be top 5 for sure
7. Trinity Prep (7)
8. Titusville (8) Ran at Disney, which was not fast this year
9. Lake Highland Prep (13) Solid race in A race at Tallahassee jumps them a few spots
10. Eastside (11)
11. Lemon Bay (10)
12. Academy of Holy Names (12)
13. Cardinal Gibbons (9)
14. Immokalee (16)
15. Too hard to call

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Wilson maintains the "favorite" status by defeating all of her competitors  at various points throughout the season.  But she is within striking distance for an entire group of hungry harriers. Montgomery is defending champion, and will of course be ready.  Never underestimate someone who has already proven he or she knows how to win. If Tsion Yared ( 6th grader) has any more improvement in her, she is capable of earning gold in her first try, and against a strong field.  And I said it before, watch out for Madison Harris.  First year running this distance, and she is already within a few yards of the leaders.  It might only be these four "on paper", but in the rear view window is Anita Munoz and Daesha Rogers   Anyone who watched these two run in track, knows they has talent for this distance.  Munoz's time has been coming down in "MINUTES" since a horrible 22:54 opener.  Rogers will not show her cards til it counts.  No one knows what she will do at 5K, but she is still a past runner up. The list ends at 20:00 now, thanks to a ridiculously fast pre state course.  I am well aware that runners who ran elsewhere are very capable of beating kids ont his list.  PROVE IT!!

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1 Mackenzie Wilson- Bolles (1A) No longer 1A, Wilson is the favorite, but…
2 Julia Montgomery- Pine Crest (1B) Never underestimate the heart of a proven champion, I was once told.  Julia will be ready I hear
3. Tsion Yared- Pine Crest (6) Is this as high as the 6th grader will climb?
4. Madison Harris - Wakulla (5) I will  repeat what I have said all along.  Madison will be somewhere between first and tenth at the state.. Only a few seconds off the leader, Wilson
5. Ally Hajda- Bolles (3) 18:31 puts her on the edge of the mix as well
6. Claire Castillo - Titusville (4) One of only three elite runners ( Rogers and Grippo the others) to skip Tallahassee.  But don’t penalize her
7. Katherine Jovanovic- Pine Crest (7) 18:48 speaks for itself
8. Lauren Archer- Ransom Everglades (8) Past performance predicts a top 10 finish
9. Rachel Shapiro - Bolles (10) Solid as a rock
10 Daesha Rogers- Jackson (9) Try to figure this one out? Two time runner up, but this is 2013 and the real distance runners in the mix.  If she finsihes, two again it will be a real accomplishment
11. Kari Grippo - Gulf HS (25) 19:06 at Land o Lakes holds up. She skipped pre state for another race
12 Anita Munoz-Immokallee (12) If she finishes top 5 don't say I didn’t warn you
13. Annie Penenieri- Bolles (NR) Returns to top group with great race
14. Meagan Giddeons-Taylor County (11) Been there all season
15. Lily Arnold - Bolles (NR) 19:46 last week
16. Suzanne Dannheim- Bolles (NR) 19:55 and is Bolles' 6th
17. Leigha Torrina - Marion (14) 19:40 earns this spot
18. Michaela Ashley -Arnold (15) 19:55 at Dolphin Dash
19. Katarina Stepanovich- Pine Crest  (NR) Pine Crest 4th
20. Aoife Oriordon- Bolles (30) Bolels 7th!!!!!!!!!
21. Marie Madiedo - Carrollton (13) Last of the sub 20:00 runners for now
22. Raleigh Nesbitt _West Florida Tech (17) 20:00.00 is close enough

3A Girls Rankings
By: John Stevenson, Sarasota HS, john.stevenson@sarasotacountyschools.net

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Estero continues to roll, but need to stay healthy. They do have some depth with Megan Slater and Elise Tutton. First time this year in rankings that no one dropped, just some movement up and down with teams. Top 4 still remains the same with Estero, Sarasota, Ft. Myers, and Fort Walton Beach. FWB and Ft. Myers just swap positions because of Ft. Myers finish at FSU. I'm very intrigued with the Creekside/Nease battle for the District 4 title.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Estero, 3 (1) Still undefeated…Holy Trinity tried for the upset but  Jenkins put 20 points on HT's #5. Estero's average was just as fast as Flrunners. Their path for a 4th straight state title still looks smooth.
2. Sarasota, 3 (2) Holding onto 2nd place but Ft. Myers and FWB are on their tail. SHS took 9th at Pre-State Elite race with a season best average 19:43. If they want to secure 2nd come November, their back half will need to move up.
3. Fort Myers, 3 (4) Ft. Myers moves up a spot in front of FWB because of their Pre-State performance. They were only 10 points behind SHS. Averaged 19:38 thanks to Edwards 18 flat 2nd place finish. Big races by their two freshman (Wagoner and Winton)
4. Fort Walton Beach, 1 (3) 4th fastest team from 3A in the Elite race at Pre-State. Average at FSU was faster than Flrunners with 19:48 average. Looks like Region 1 Championship is upon the horizon
5. Pace, 1 (8) I knew they will put a hurting at FSU! 19:54 average with 2:09 spread. Huge race by Cheyenne Andrew! Definitely in the running for a top 3 finish.
6. Seabreeze, 2 (5) Took the victory at Bronco Bob meet with three ladies in the 19's. Averaged 20:12 average. Strong core of runners with small spread is always dangerous in large meets.
7. Lakewood Ranch, 3 (6) Hasn't raced full strength since Flrunners, but LWR always makes a good run during the postseason.
8. Creekside, 1 (9) It was a tight race at the Bronco Bob meet. Creekside edged out Nease for 2nd place. It looked like Creekside was missing their # 3 (Jackson). Average time was 20:35 with a great spread of 1:15.
9. Nease, 1 (7) Right behind Creekside at Bronco Bob meet without their #2 (Pantano) so could they have taken down Creekside…don't know but will find out at the District 4 meet. Average time was 20:21 thanks to Xiang's 18:25.
10. Ocala Vanguard. 2 (12) The 6th fastest team in 3A in the Elite Race at FSU. Lead by the 1-2 duo of Audrey and Elizabeth. Averaged 20:23, but large spread of almost 3 minutes. Will always be in the mix with the 1-2 punch.
11. Gulf Coast, 3 (10) Finish just behind Ocala with 20:18 average mostly due to Barlow's 17:53. Will have a large spread because of that, but 3-5 will need to move up if they want a top 10 finish at States.
12. Niceville, 1 (11) Ran lights out at Pre-State Select race with 20:32 average. Big race by Claire Crist. Very nice spread of 1:48. They could move up nicely if 4 and 5 move into the 20's.
13. Merritt Island, 4 (13) Finished 3rd at Disney Classic in 3A race with 21:00 average and a good spread of 1:11.
14. Ponte Vedra, 1 (14) Finish 4th at Bronco Bob meet with 21:07 average without their #4 with a spread of 2:52. Looks like they will be the final Region 1 team to make it to States.
15. Robinson, 3 (15) Took the victory at the Millard Shumate Invitational, but didn't look impressive. Many of the ladies ran well over their season best times.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Wow!! If you saw the Pre-State race, then you should be super excited for states in 4 weeks. It was a great battle. There are four clear challengers for the top spot with Xiang and Barlow leading the way. It looks like it's going to be between Xiang, Barlow, Edwards, and Leon. The two big races of last week were FSU and Disney.

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Karen Xiang, 12, Nease 1 17:52. She holds the fastest time in the state and still undefeated for the season, but watch out for Barlow
2. Caroline Barlow, 12, Gulf Coast 4 17:53. Caroline dropped the hammer on the last half of the race! 3A Region 3 meet is going to be just as exciting as state.
3. Emily Edwards, 12, Ft. Myers 2 18:00. I think Emily is getting tired of getting 2nd, she was with Barlow for most of the race but Caroline pulled away. Edwards just missed the 17's by milliseconds.
4. Araceli Leon, 12, Estero 3 18:14. Araceli is having an outstanding season with progressing nicely in the big races.
5. Emma Rudman, 10, Fort Walton 8 18:19. Huge PR for Emma. Ran great at FSU. She looked focused and determined. Great to see her bounce back from Flrunners.
6. Devin Molloy, 9, Barron Collier 5 18:32. Off her pace a little at Southwest FL Invite with 19:07, but #1 Freshman is ready for the postseason in a stacked region.
7. Katie Slater, 12, Estero 7 18:37. Ran lights out at FSU to help bring the team title to Estero.
8. Daley Cline, 10, Estero 9 18:44. Just missed her PR at FSU with 18:46. Running very well in the big races!
9. Cheyenne Andrew, 12, Pace NR 18:50. I think she was a little mad being dropped, but ran a fantastic race at FSU with huge PR. Congrats!
10. Audrey Carpenter, 11, Ocala Vanguard 13 18:55.  Running consistently all year. Ran a solid 19:07 at FSU. Part of the 1-2 punch from Ocala.
11. Elizabeth Mulford, 11, Ocala Vanguard 19 19:07. Great racing at FSU with a SB! Nice to be able to train with Audrey.
12. Hannah Giangaspro, 12, Bartram Trail 11 18:53. Coming off her tremendous 18:53, Hannah ran a 19:30 at Bale N Trail.
13. Breeana Salcedo, 10, Cypress Lake 10 19:00. Ran a little slower at Disney than Flrunners with 19:36, but last 4 races have been in the 19's. I beat she is ready to break the 19 barrier.
14. Angelina Grebe, 11, Sarasota 23 19:08. Season best at FSU. Every week she is improving. Looking to getting back to the 18's
15. Bethany Jenkins, 12, Estero 6 18:27. Bethany is falling off her great September, but gutsy performance at Pre-State to help the team with 19:10
16. Rachel Kling, 11, Pace 15 19:12. Rachel is moving up very nicely in the rankings with her stellar performance at FSU.
17. Sage Lyons, 9, Sarasota 16 19:12. Bounced back from Flrunners with 19:20 at FSU. Running consistently the past 3 weeks.
18. Maura Rose Poling, 9, Lely 22 19:15. Running very well now. PR at Southwest FL Invite and 19:20 at Disney. Placed 3rd at Disney 3A race. Freshman is looking to head to states as an individual.
19. Megan Giovanniello, 9, Ida S. Baker 18 19:28. Nice PR at Disney finishing 4th in 3A race.
20. Megan Slater, 11, Estero NR 19:25. Huge race at FSU. Secured Estero's back half.
21. Alexander Wallace, 10, Chiles NR 19:25. Right behind Slater. Getting faster each week!
22. Maggie Parrish, 10, Chamberlain 20 19:21. Off her pace at FSU with 19:40 but she did run in the Varsity A race with warmer conditions.
23. Bethany Hardcastle, 11, South Fork 21 19:22. Little inconsistent in her races with 19:54 and 20:23 in the past two weeks.
24. Kianna Bonnet, 10, Seebreeze 14 19:23. A little inconsistent after Flrunners with 20:35 and 20:15.
25. Ashton McMurray, 12, Chiles NR 19:29. Ran a season best at FSU. Each week she is getting back to her 2012 PR! Improvement gets you ranked.

  Dropped from Rankings:
Adair Lyden, 10, Lake Nona 12 19:18. Falling off a bit from Mt. Dew. 19:45 at Disney.
  Amber Philpott, 10, Springstead 17 19:16. Hasn't raced since Sept. 21.
Maddy Hull, 12, Robinson 24 19:34. Inconsistent running has dropped Maddy from rankings. 20:50 at Millard Invite.
Julia Ortiz, 10, Lakewood Ranch 25 19:33. Raced at IMG placing 2nd with 20:47. Looking for some PR's in the postseason

  Girls to Watch:
Emily Kerns, 11, Mitchell NR 19:10 PR but too inconsistent to rank in top 25 right now
Snesha Sathish, 10, King NR 19:15 at Don Bishop but all other races are in the 20's

4A Girls Rankings
By: Ryan Raposo, John A. Ferguson HS, ryanraposo@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: A few teams had some surprising performances this week and their jumps in the rankings reflected those performances. There are a good 8-10 teams that are fighting for top ten honors come the state meet, while it appears as if the top six teams have separated themselves a little bit. The only change there was Ferguson flip-flopping with St. Thomas. Now in the computers St. Thomas still has the edge over Ferguson, even with Kalis listed as their # 6 runner, but for the second major meet in a row, the St. Thomas girls just didn't put it all together on the same day, so Ferguson gets the slight nod this time. And still at the top of the charts is Winter Park; this really is their state meet to lose as no one can hang with their top five runners and they looked extremely impressive at FSU this weekend. (Note: As I mention below in the individual rankings, some meets received a 20 second bump such as Disney and Bale N Trail as compared to FSU).

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Other than a handful of athletes that competed at Disney or Bale N Trail (both meets getting a 20 second bump versus FSU), it was another weekend where we got to see most of the top runners in the state race head-to-head. Nine of the top ten girls stayed in the top ten, so while there was a little shuffling, most of the top tier stayed in that tier. Alexa Cruz didn't have her best day at FSU, but I still feel as if she is the favorite for this year's championship, although a fantastic run by Katrina Santiago puts her at the top of list this week! =)

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:

1A Boys Rankings
By: Mark Caulfield, The Geneva School, markscaul@aol.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: With the regular season quickly coming to a close, the Florida State University Pre-State Invitational gave us a nice glimpse perhaps of what is to come. Twelve of the top 20 teams made the trip to Tallahassee to take part in the meet giving us a nice comparative review of teams competing on the same course. Holy Trinity came out strong in the Race of Champions with some outstanding performances setting 6 of 7 individual personal bests. The State Championship seems like theirs to lose. The battle could be for the other podium position with a solid four teams competing for the spot. Maclay School looks to hold the advantage with depth, experience and history on their side while The Geneva School and Shorecrest Prep appear eager to make a run at the Mauraders with young talent along with an experienced North Florida Christian team. With the State Series gearing up next week, good luck to all the Class 1A teams in finishing the season strong!

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Holy Trinity Academy (Region 3) (1) Holy Trinity cemented their top ranking with a strong team performance at the FSU Pre-State Invitational. With a 14th place ROC finish, a 16:32 team average and 6 out of 7 team PR's, the Tigers continue to distance themselves from the 1A competition.  Their only vulnerability appears to be team depth. If anyone of the talented top four stumbles, there are a couple teams that could close in and compete.
2. Maclay School (Region 1) (2) With their top 11 runners all setting seasonal best performances over the last two weeks reveals the Mauraders are moving in the right direction. Their 10th place finish in the Select Race at FSU and 17:09 team average further solidifies their runnerup spot. Team strength is in their consistency and team depth, but will it be enough to close the gap on HTA.
3. The Geneva School (Region 2) (3) Finished 16th in the Select Race at FSU with a 17:32 team average without their #2 runner.  If they stay healthy and can close the gap a bit at the 4 and 5 spots, this team could compete for a podium spot in their first ever State Meet appearance. Their 17:02 team average ranks second in the State behind HTA.
4. Shorecrest Prep  (Region 3) (4) Won the St. Petersburg City Championships with a 17:22 team average. The Chargers have all the components to make a run at the podium with strong front runners and a tight middle pack. With just a slight improvement from each, the podium is within their grasp.
5. North Florida Christian (Region 1) (5) A 17:49 team average at the FSU Pre-State Invitational has NFC in the hunt. With a lack of team depth, everyone will need to bring their best to break into the top 3.
6. Indian Rocks Christian  (Region 3) (8) With 5 of 6 individual PR's set and an 18:04 team average at the Disney Cross Country Classic has this team on the way up.
7. Circle Christian School (Region 2) (10) Finished 3rd in the Varsity B race at the FSU Pre-State Invitational with an 18:24 team average despite their #1 running 1:20 off his PR while everyone else ran personal bests.
8. P.K. Younge School (Region 2) (6) The Blue Waves drop a few spots with only 1 personal best set recently. Team has a 17:58 average based on seasonal performances, but need to keep improving to move up.
9. Pensacola Christian Academy (Region 1) (7) No recorded races run in October yet but their 18:10 team average of season best performances shows top 10 talent.
10. Westminster Academy (Region 4) (9) Won the Westminster Academy Invitational with an 18:27 team average. A strong improvement at #5 moves them near the top 5.
11. Windermere Prep (Region 2) (11) Has run a number of split squad races recently making it dificult to compile team results but their 18:24 average of seasonal bests has them in contention for a top 10 spot.
12. Oak Hall School  (Region 2) (15) An 18:41 team average and 7th place finish in the Varsity B Race at the FSU Pre-State Invitational and a 19:11 team average at Great American keeps them in the top 15.
13. St. Petersburg Catholic High School (Region 3) (NR) Finished 4th at the St. Petersburg City Championship with an 18:49 team average. This team has talent and we’ve been waiting for them to emerge.
14. Admiral Farragut Academy (Region 3) (14) Duplicated their Flrunners team average with an 18:55 average at the FSU Pre-State Invitational. Top 5 are improving each meet with 3 new PR's at FSU.
15. Seffner Christian Academy (Region 3) (16) A 19:20 team average at the Land O'Lakes Gator Invitational and 5th place finish and 19:43 team average on a slow course at the Millard Shumate Invitational.
16. International Community School (Region 3) (13) Team averaged 18:58 with their 9th place finish at the FSU Pre-State Invitational finish.
17. Father Lopez Catholic High School (Region 2) (12) Not much activity since Flrunners but their 18:45 season team average keeps them on the Poll for now.
18. Miami Country Day  (Region 4) (19) Finished 3rd in the Miami Country Day Invitational with a team average of 18:55 and finished 3rd at the Westminster Academy Invitational with a 19:29 team average.
19. Cardinal Mooney High School (Region 3) (NR) An 18:55 team average and 12th place finish in the Varsity B race at the FSU Pre-State Invitational breaks them into the top 20 for the first time.
20. Aucilla Christian Academy (Region 1) (NR) A 19:07 team average and 13th place finish in the Varsity B race at the FSU Pre-State Invitational breaks them into the top 20 for the first time.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: After this weekend, I can't wait for November 9th. The FSU Pre-State Invitational showed us how exciting the State Meet is going to be this year. Over the last 15 years there has never been more than 5 Class 1A athletes break 16:00 (2010 had 5). This year there are already 4 with another 5 knocking on the door. With a challenging but fast State course, this should be a record breaking year. Senior Troy Clark of Mount Dora Bible leads the polls for the second week in a row with his outstanding 15:40.88 performance at FSU in the Race of Champions. While Clark is the clear individual favorite going into the State Series, there are a number of credible contenders for the championship lead by teammates Andrew Cacciatore and Trevor Kattenberg of Holy Trinity, Joseph Janson of P.K. Younge, Nicholas Gonzalez of The Geneva School, Griffith Rutherford of North Florida Christian, James Daughton of Maclay, and Franco Martins of Windermere Prep. The battle for a top 10 medal promises to be fierce and could take a sub 16:00 effort to grab one. Good luck to all of our Class 1A athletes. What a priviledge it has been to track your results and I hope each of you finish your season with a huge PR.

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:
1. Troy Clark, Senior - Mount Dora Bible (1) A 15:40 twentieth place PR finish in the FSU (Pre-State) Race of Champions solidifies his position as the runner to beat leading into the State Series.  Clark is confident and aggressive at the front making him the one others will need to catch if they want to contend for a title.
2. Trevor Kattenberg, Freshman - Holy Trinity (7) Following a 17:17 run at Great American, Kattenberg explodes with a 15:48 PR clocking in the ROC at FSU that catapults this talented and fearless Freshman to the runner up spot this week.
3. Joseph Janson, Senior - P.K. Younge (3) A fast 15:52 PR at FSU finishing 31st in the Race of Champions.  The most consistent top runner this year averaging 16:06 for his 6 regualr season races.
4. Andrew Cacciatore, Junior - Holy Trinity (2) Ran 16:00 at FSU while nursing a nagging hip issue. Will get some rest over the next few weeks and should be ready to make a run at a state title by Novmber 9th.
5. Nicholas Gonzalez, Junior - The Geneva School (5) Ran a sluggish looking 16:06 at FSU following four straight weeks of competitive racing. Should be better rested and ready to make a run at the top 5 at the State Meet.
6. Griffith Rutherford, Senior - North Florida Christian (4) Ran 16:10 at FSU in winning the Varsity A division. In each of his 6 races this season, Rutherford has gradually been improving biding his time to peak at the right moment and be ready to battle for a state title.
7. James Daughton, Senior - Maclay School (8) Another top runner who has improved in all five of his regular season meets leading to a 16:11 PR at FSU. Maclay consistently has their athletes ready to go at State and Daughton looks to ready.
8. Franco Martins, Junior - Windermere Prep (6) Ran 16:14 for the runner up spot in the Varsity A Race at Pre-State. Martins has been having a very consistent season hovering near the top and could be a darkhourse challenger for a top 5 finish at State.

10. Luke Peterson, Sophomore - Shorecrest Prep (11) Peterson cracks the top 10 for the first time following an impressive win at the St. Petersburg City Championships with a 16:23 PR. This talented Sophomore is an athlete to keep a close eye on through the State Series.

2A Boys Rankings
By: Doug Nowlin, Pine Crest School, doug.nowlin@pinecrest.edu

Team Rankings:

Commentary:  No major changes to the team rankings this week.  Most of the ranked teams participated in the FSU Pre-State Invitational (Elite, Select, and Varsity "A" races), so head to head competition was considered when factoring specific placement.  Trinity Prep continues to have a strong lead in pursuit of the 2a Championship, though Bishop Kenny and Immokalee both lowered their team averages to within 20 seconds of the top spot.  McKeel and Titusville went head to head, (again), this time at Disney with 31 points separating the two in this latest match-up.  Next rankings will posted on Oct. 30th and will feature a preview for Regional Competition.  All the best to 2a boys going into the District Championships.  Hopefully the outstanding FSU course has everyone eager to return to Tallahassee on November 9th.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Trinity Prep, R2 (1) 10th Place at FSU Elite with a team average of 16:28 and a 1-5 split of 26 seconds!
2. Bishop Kenny, R1 (5) 1st Place at FSU Select.  Congratulations, Bishop Kenny!  Team average of 16:48 and a 1-5 split of 23 seconds!
3. Immokalee, R3 (2) 24th Place at FSU Elite with a team average of 16:48 and a 1-5 split of 2:17.  Essentially tied for 2nd in the 2a rankings with BK.  The 6th place runner was used to settle the tie for this ranking.
4. McKeel Academy, R3 (3) 1st Place at Disney Classic 2a.  Congratulations, McKeel Academy!  Team average of 17:06 and a 1-5 split of 26 seconds!
5. Titusville, R4 (4) 2nd Place at Disney Classic 2a.  Team average of 17:13 and a 1-5 split of 1:58 seconds.
6. Tampa Jesuit, R3 (8) 12th Place at FSU Select with a team average of 17:18 and a 1-5 split of 1:04.

9. Rockledge, R4 (9) 2nd Place at Wayne Cross Invitational.  Results seem to indicate a slow course so Rockledge will stay ranked at #9.
10. West Florida Tech, R1 (12) 17th Place at FSU Select with a team average of 17:36 and a 1-5 split of 43 seconds!
11. Lake Highland Prep,, R2 (6) 19th Place at FSU Select with a team average of 17:36 and a 1-5 split of 1:29.

15. Bolles, R1 (15) Team ran without top runner Austin Decker, who ran FSU Select as an individual.  Team average (without Austin) of 18:24 and a 1-5 split of 1:28.

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: Big Thank You to Coach Braman, Coach Sumner, and everyone else who worked hard to provide our athletes with a great racing experience this weekend in Tallahassee.  Perfect course conditions and excellent competition provided fast times for this week's rankings.  Leonel Delacruz has opened a 30 second lead at the top of the 2a rankings, while only one second separates the next 3 runners. I used several factors this week to provide these (subjective) rankings:  Head to Head competition at FSU and Disney; Other races since FlRunners; and Season Best (SB) times.  There are a few 2a athletes who only have one strong race from earlier in the season.  Those runners' spots may have been replaced by athletes with more recent strong performances.  Sorry, but I decided not to consider the Gibbons Invitational -- the fast 2a times seem to be the result of a course that was less than 5k. Our next poll will be published on October 30th and will include the names of 2a Regional Qualifiers -- so have a great race at your District Championships!

Athlete Name, Grade – Team (Prev.)  Time, Comments:

3A Boys Rankings
By: Ryan Lowe, Lake Nona HS, ryan.lowe@ocps.net

Team Rankings:

Commentary: Wow, I'm not sure how else to explain the race at Pre-State this past weekend.  I think 3A showed their dominance over the rest of the state with a 1-3 team sweep in the Elite Race.  I know that I am not alone when I say that I can't wait for the State Championship to see what these teams will do for an encore.  Has Chiles awoken a sleeping giant in Belen or are they ready to show that they have what it takes to bring home gold?  Can Fort Walton Beach close the ever so close gap?  As we move into the county and district meets, will any team emerge as a possible contender for the podium on 11/9; stay tuned for a fun couple of weeks of running.

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. Chiles, R1 (3) Won an amazing race at FSU, can they repeat on 11/9?
2. Belen, R4 (1) Was the loss at FSU a wake-up call or a sign of things to come?
3. Fort Walton Beach, R1 (2) Hanging tough and improving, a matter of seconds behind the first two teams.

5. Sarasota, R3 (8) Continues to move up the rankings but are they too far behind?
6. Ft. Myers, R3 (9) Top 2 runners are as good as they come.
7. Pembroke Pines Charter, R4 (11) Moves up 4 spaces after FSU, they seem to like running up north.
8. Niceville, R1 (7) #2 runner has been out and that will put an end to any chance they had if he doesn't run.
9. Estero, R3 (5) dropped from last poll after FSU, can they learn from the race?
10. Land O'Lakes, R2 (10) wildcard team as they have not traveled too far from home, first big race may be State.
11. Creekside, R1 (12) Edged out St. Augustine at the Bronco Bob race to win
12. St. Augustine, R1 (4) big drop from last poll after Bronco Bob race
13. Ocala Vanguard, R2 (13) Good run at FSU puts them right behind Land O Lakes in region 2.
14. Naples, R3 (16) Got the win over other Florida 3A teams at Disney race

Individual Rankings:

Commentary: There are 24 runners who have gone under 16 minutes this year, what can these guys do at State to top their Pre-State Race?  The adrenaline will be pumping and the stakes will be much higher so we will see who can handle the pressure of the post-season.  Good luck to everyone running in the post-season, may the wind be to your back and the trails be flat and fast.

4A Boys Rankings
By: Jorge Fleitas, Dr. Phillips HS, jfleitas28@gmail.com

Team Rankings:

Commentary: This is how I have it with PRs and removing other schools... I know some schools beat some schools at Pre-State. But if you remove 1A-3A  this is what you get 4 weeks from States..

  Team Name, Region (Prev.)  Comments:
1. St. Thomas (1) St. Thomas Aquinas 92 points... Clearly the best team in 4A ... Best #4-5-6-7 in 4A....
2. Coral Reef (2) Coral Reef 132 points- even thought the reef lost to sunset at Pre-State they had a break through race for there #5 runner... I have them beating sunset by 10pts....
3. Sunset (3) Sunset 143 points... The big question mark for sunset is there #3 - #5 runner... If Castro has a big day at states like last year they may top Reef....
4. Timber Creek (5) Timber Creek 163 points- the wolves have Brandon and #2-3 punch...  But I think they are outside looking in towards a podium finish...
5. Sarasota Riverview (12) Sarasota Riverview 170 points- Tempo, Tempo, Tempo….The View came to run at Pre-State and made the biggest jump in the rankings.
6. Mandarin (4) Mandarin 180 points - this was tough team to drop but the Mustangs will land on the 6th spot for now... I believe they are a Top 3 team in 4A... But I can't go off my gut i need to go off the Points and team Averages...
7. Dr. Phillips (9) Dr. Phillips 201 points 2nd best #5 runner in 4A. .. They had a 25 sec spread #1-5... If the pack can break 16:30 you may have an underdog....DP biggest problem they  need a front runner...
8. Lyman (7) Lyman 241 - the Greyhounds run there fastest team average all year and finish 20th at Pre-state.. 16:44 Team Average...
9. Winter Park (8) Winter Park 242- Finishes 22nd @ Pre-State/ Elite…. Look for the Park to start moving up the Rankings….16:45 team Average
10. Columbus (5) Columbus 281- Finish 25th @ Pre-State/ Elite they had a dissapointing finish but a new #1 Runner Humberto Freire may be what they need to move up the Rankings….16:52 team average
11. Lake Mary (11) Lake Mary 290-  A disapointing finish of 4th Place @ Select Race but a Team Average of 16:57 puts them at the 11ths Spot
12. HB Plant (10) Plant 292 - Placed 3rd @ Millard Shumate Invite
13. Park Vista (NR) Park Vista 317-  3rd place finish @Pre State/ Select Race but the 17:00 Team Average drops them behind Lake Mary at a Smaller Faster State Venue.
14. Sickles (NR) Sickles 376 Finished 8th Place @ Pre State/ Select Race 17:02 Team Average
15. John A. Ferguson (NR) John A. Ferguson 412 - 6th Place Finish @ Pre-State/ Select Race 17:10 Team Average

Note: Teams that should be in the top 15.... But region of death may or may not leave them home Buchholz, Hagerty, Colonial, Flagler Palm Coast. Any one of them could replace lake Mary at spot 11...
