To start this week off I would like to talk about something that will affect this year’s senior class… commitments. Congrats to all the recent commits like Emily Edwards, Connor Ferrentino, and Caroline Barlow (Roll Tide!). Before you ask I have no clue on where I would like to attend, but I would like any of the other runners who are interested in running for college to contact me via social media or at a meet. I had the chance to talk with Tyler Bennett over college options last week and it was really fun to see that we are looking at some of the same schools. I want to talk to more of you on where you are looking at going because that will help make my decision easier. So please contact me! Thanks.
Two weeks ago Niceville headed east to Tallahasse for Prestate. Everyone ran great especially Jack Massey (16:39). I didn’t too bad myself with a 4th place 15:07, but there is still time for a sub-15. That 15:07 is a school record for 5000 meters, but not for a converted three mile. Fred Carley ran a 14:31 as a SOPHMORE so I still have something to strive for, as I want to be the best to ever come out of our little town called Niceville. Overall I was happy with the race and I’m looking forward to states. After the race it was off to Jacksonville to visit the University of North Florida. Joining me were Mark Robertson and Austin Decker. I already knew Mark and Austin seemed like a nice guy so it was fun. The team and the campus seemed nice. It was the first time I was at UNF since winning state in the 1600 meter run so it was awesome to recollect over my first state title.
Last weekend we had our county meet where Fort Walton Beach dominated the team scoring. I took the win and was joined by another runner, someone who I’ve missed… Thomas Howell. He looked strong in his first race back from injury. We went 1-2 and felt really good afterward. The team took second and we are ready to challenge in the postseason. I believe our average is around 16:15 and I want to see it sub-16 by years end. Good luck to everyone as we move closer and closer to states.
