Salute To Seniors: Crystal McDougle - Merritt Island

What was your most memorable race/moment?

My most memorable moment was the 2A State Finals my junior year where I placed 9th in the 300m hurdles.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over the past four years?

I would consider myself my biggest competition because I am more focused on beating my own times and setting new personal bests.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would have started running hurdles my freshman year.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment was reaching my goal set from freshman year which was to sign a college scholarship to run track.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacles were pushing hard at practice even when I was not up to it.

What advice would you give to younger athletes?

Make a goal and do not stop until you reach it. Do not be afraid of competition because it is what leads to becoming a winner.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach has guided me every step of the way ever since I was a beginning freshman. He helped me discover my good strengths and better strengths because he taught me there are no bad strengths. I am the strong athlete I am today because of it.

What are your college plans?

I plan to attend Florida Atlantic University to run track and field while studying Exercise Science.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would first always thank God for allowing me to enjoy my great high school experience running track and field. Next, I want to thank my parents for striving to give me nothing but the best in support of my passion especially my dad. Lastly, my highschool coach as well as summer track coach. They helped motivate and train me to be a winner physically and mentally.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to say that if this sport were easy everyone would be doing it. Nothing is ever given, always earned. Track and field is more than just competing and running, but it is a positive sport that requires you to rely on yourself a majority of the time. It is an individual concept of determination and I belive that is why the strongest athletes arise from the sport. Our nation, track nation, is the best nation.
