Whitney's World Junior Performance Earns Her Second USATF Athlete Of The Week Honor

Kaylin Whitney had more medals than most countries at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships. At only 16, the East Ridge High School rising junior brought back gold medals in the 200m dash and as a member of Team USA's 4x100m relay. She also took bronze in the 100m dash. The three medals were the cherrry on top of one of the best seasons for a high school female sprinter we've ever seen. Her performance at World Juniors earned her a second USATF Athlete of the Week honor.

Whitney joins Americans Marica Michta (race walking) and Emma Coburn (steeplechase) as the only two athletes to win the award twice. Both are professional athletes and Olympians. The only other athlete to win it more and that is 2012 Olympic silver medalist (10k) Galen Rupp who has received the honor three times. High Schoolers Noah Lyles (VA) and Alexa Efraimson (WA) have been named Athlete of the Week once this season.

After winning the 4A state championship in the 100 and 200 for her fourth state title in two years, Whitney outshined her competition at the Dream 100, Brooks PR Invitational, and set national records at the USA Junior Championships, before showcasing her talents on the world stage.
