Yes, that is Pine Crest 7th grader Tsion Yared running in a tutu. Not just jogging, or playing around, but actually doing a workout; in a tutu. The Panthers were in the midst of homecoming week and Yared thought she'd get in on the action.

"I wanted to show my school spirit during cross country practice. I always try to make running fun. I mean, they were 600 repeats. A little fun couldn't hurt."

Yared, who was sixth at the 2A Cross Country finals as a sixth grader, has been having a phenomenal season. In five meets she has three wins including the flrunners.com Invitational Race of Champions, and has finished no less than fourth in the other two, running under 19 minutes in all of them. Her season best of 18:08.31 at the UF Mt. Dew Invitational is the fifth fastest in FL, fastest in 2A, and top time in the nation for a seventh grader. She says her new running uniform this past week made her feel a lot better.

"Honestly, it did. it's probably one of the best workouts I've had all season. Even though running against the wind with it was difficult, it made me feel magical and motivated me to go faster."

Coach Paul Baur agrees adding that she was cranking out the 600's at sub five minute mile pace.

"I figured if she was going to wear that then she better have a great workout and she did."

Is this something Yared might bring back in the future?

"Yes, definitely. Maybe I would bring it out in the future for other hard workouts. It would be cool if we could add it to our team's spirit pack gear! Tutu=PR!"
