A Halliday Classic

Although the name might be a work in progress, it certainly was a classic. Blessed by perfect weather, the Flagler track was a fast-moving assembly line of events: (in order) long jump, shot put, discus, pole vault, triple jump, high jump, 600, 100/110 hurdles, 100, 1600, 4 X 100, 300, 400, 300 hurdles, 800, 200, 1200, F/S 1600, and 4 X 4; in and out in 5 ½ hours thank you very much!

Five schools went in (hence the Hi-Fivers album), one each Boys and Girls came out on top: the Flagler Boys rolled to a 305 and the Spruce Creek Girls 273.5 to win the respective team trophies.

Spruce Creek's Courtney Belgrade emerged the grand champion with three individual titles: 5' ½" in the high jump; 16' 6 ½" in the long jump; and 33' 3" in the triple jump.

The Flagler Girls had two double winners: Devonne Friday in the 100 (15.70) and 300 (47.73) hurdles; Emari Williams in the 100 (13.17) and 200 (27.46). The Flagler Boys also had double deuces: Jimmie Robinson in the 100 (11.22) and 200 (22.88); Justin Pacifico in the 300 (36.96) and 600 (1:22.66).

Flagler swept the relays: Boys (42.82) and Girls (50.33) 4 X 100, and Boys (3:26.17) and Girls (4:14.24) 4 X 400; and their Williams' siblings the 400 (Marcel in 51.3 and Ladeijah in 1:02.91).

Apopka's Jason Toussaint was heavyweight champion (47' 2 ½" in the shot and 120' 6" in the discus). Spruce Creek's Tremel McMillon won the triple jump (42' 5 ¾") and 110 hurdles (16.21).

Always a pleasure to spend a holiday with the Hallidays!
