Florida's top athletes invaded the Lonestar State for the Texas Relays in Austin. Future Longhorn Teahna Daniels was the lone champion in the group. Daniels, the reigning 1A 100/200m state champion, and New Balance Nationals Indoor 60m champion, clocked the fastest time in the prelims running 10.65. In the finals, Daniels continued to shine running a blistering 11.27w (4.4m/s) to defend her 100m title from a year ago. St. Thomas Aquinas junior Khalifa St. Fort was second in 11.44 after coming into the finals with the fourth fastest time.
Speaking of St. Thomas Aquinas, the national record holders and favorites in this event came away with the win, St Thomas Aquinas proving they're the best in the country in the 4x200m. The quartet of Kristen Laidlaw, Diamond Spaulding, Alon Lewis, and Krystal Sparling ran a nation leading mark of 1:35.93!
We also got to see High School 100m National Record Holder, Kaylin Whitney, making her pro debut anchoring team USA in the 4x100m to a Texas Relays victoy.
The most highly anticipated event on Saturday was the boys D2 4x400m final which featured American High School (Hialeah) vs. the best of the best from Texas.
The Patriots bounced back and forth in the lead, but fell to third when all was said and done in a time of 3:15.82.
Kimani Rushing wasn't pleased with her performance, but the Hallandale standout definitely scored some key points. Rushing was third in the 100mh in 13.66 (4 m/s wind) and came up just shy of a win in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.06.
Hallandale senior Antwuan Musgrove made his Texas Relays debut in the 110m hurdles. Musgrove, finished sixth in 13.86. He bounced back in the 300m hurdles clocking the fastest time in the state of 36.72. St. Thomas Aquinas' sophomore Trevon Grimes was 7th in 37.89.
