Spaulding, Harris, Mason 2-3-4 In Prefontaine Classic High School 200m

Diamond Spaulding, La'Kayla Harris, and Symone Mason finished 2-3-4 in the girls high school 200m dash at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon. The trio who posted times of 23.72, 23.93, and 24.01 were unable to out last sophomore Candace Hill of Georgia who won in 23.64. Spaulding heads off to Texas A&M in the fall while Harris is headed to Nebraska. Mason, one of the top current sophomores in the country, has two more years to make her mark on the national scene. Look for some of these girls to extend their seasons and compete in New Balance Outdoor Nationals or other post season meets. (Watch the race on USATF.tv)

On the boys side, Ryan Clark of Georgia lived up to his billing as the number one sprinter in the country. The future Florida Gator dominated the field winning in a time of 20.77s, just shy of his personal best of 20.64. Plantation senior Khai McLin who told me the day before the meet he was having a great time out in Eugene, was the top Florida finisher with a time of 21.69 and a seventh place showing. McLin was just hundredths of a second from a top five finish after the two spots in front of him crossed in 21.60 and 21.68 respectively. Malik Wright of Tampa Bay Tech rounded out the field in 8th with a time of 22.22. (Watch the race on USATF.tv)
