Daniels Golden On Day Two Of USA Championships

The First Academy senior and University of Texas signee Teahna Daniels was golden in the women's 100m dash running a state leading, and new personal best wind-legal time of 11.24 in route to her first USA Junior Championship. Daniels was third at last year's meet and was a member of Team USA's gold medal winning 4x100m relay. Now she will head to Canada for the Pan American Championships. Coach Ricky Argro said after the race that it wasn't her best race, but definitely the biggest win of her career. Former Lake Highland Prep and Southern Cal freshman Deanna Hill, who is the top seed in the 200m dash, was fourth in 11.41! See what the all smiles Daniels had to say after the race.

Ashley Miller will join Daniels at the University of Texas in the fall, and like Daniels, the USA Junior Championships were a chance to extend her season. However, after second in her heat and with the third fastest time in the final, she was unable to improve on her 13.55, running 13.59 and ending a great high school career with a fifth place showing. She says she got out of the block as planned, but everyone else ran a great as well.

Florida Gators Lloydricia Cameron and Darrielle McQueen finished third in the shot put (15.44m, 50-8) and fifth (5.93m (19-5½ ) in the long jump respectively. Cameron was second in the discus on Friday and will compete in the hammer throw as well. McQueen who is the second seed in the triple jump will look to make Team USA in that event.

Former St. Thomas Aquinas quarter miler and USC freshman Kendall Ellis advanced to the juniors 400m finals with second fastest time of 53.69.

In senior action,Trayvon Bromell continued to make history by becoming the first teenager to make a men's 100m world team. Bromell, who won silver at the IAAF World Youth Championships last year, ran against the "big dogs" on Friday and came away with a runner-up trophy and time of 9.96 behind one of the best American sprinters of all time Tyson Gay, who ran 9.87. Bromell was pumped up after the race and was in no rush to announce a decision to go pro. Isaiah Young who trains with Dennis Mitchell and Star Athletics was fourth.

Central Florida hometown girl Jenny Simpson (Oviedo High School) ran a tactical and close race to win her heat of the 1500m in 4:08.59. She will race to repeat her 1500m crown on Sunday.

The women's 400m dash might have been one of the most stacked fields from top to bottom. 2012 Olympic Champion and St. Thomas Aquinas High School alumni Sanya Richards-Ross failed to make the final. She said in a post-race interview she was unsure went wrong, but will return to Rio to defend her title in 2016. Kala Funderburk (St. Petersburg/FSU), the NCAA champion, Dee Dee Trotter, and University of Florida's Robin Reynolds all failed to advance as well. Shakima Wimbley of Miami nailed one of the last qualifying spots with her time of 51.09 and fourth place finish in her heat.

The only men's 400m runner with Florida ties to qualify from the semifinals was Florida alumni Tony McQuay who had the fourth fastest time of the day, 44.93. Clayton Parros who trains with Life Speed in Lake Minneola, Gator Najee Glass, former Gator Calvin Smith, and the Seminole duo of James Harris and Michael Cherry all failed to make the final.

Other Florida related highlights:

Tori Bowie (Adidas) who trains at the NTC with Lance Brauman's Pure Athletics group ran the fastest time in the prelims 10.72w. Bowie went onto win the final as well in 10.81s.

University of Miami alumni Terea Brown (Adidas) qualified for 400mh semifinal with a time of 57.62. The men's 400mh has Florida flavor to it with Miami Central alumni Bershawn "Batman" Jackson (NIKE) who has the second fastest time from the semifinal of 49.06 and University of Florida alumni Kerron Clement, the fourth fastest time, and current Florida Gator Eric Futch with the sixth best.

Duane Solomon (Saucony) who trains with 800m American Record holder Johnny Gray out at UCF was fourth in the semifinals with a time of 1:45.56 to advance to Sunday's final.
