Salute To Seniors: Diamond Williams - Raines High School

The 2014-2015 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

What was your most memorable race/moment?

When I set a PR in the 100m dash running a 12.3 and advancing to the regional and state meets for my fourth and final year in a row.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Cedrina Singletary from Paxon and Chelsea Francis from Atlantic Coast. Those girls are amazing and it sent a challenge my way from myself. I had to push to keep doing better.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

Winning a state medal with my 4x100m relay team and also making it to state in the 100 meter dash.

If you could do it over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

Nothing. I got to where I am now just fine with all the obstacles designed to be in my way like a hurdle. I jumped over them and succeeded just fine.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Coming back from an injury my 11th grade season. That set me back.

What will you miss most?

I will miss the fun and thrill with my teammates and my coach Lewis James.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Persevere and never give up. When people tell you you can't do something that should motivate you to do it and prove them wrong.

What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

My coach has been a major influence with talks, examples, and even bringing old alumni out to talk about their high school track years.

What are your college plans?

I'm going to Edwards Water College on a full ride and Jacksonville commit scholarship to be a student-athlete. I will major in criminal justice.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I'd like to say thanks to God, my teammates, my coaches, and everyone else who believed in and supported me.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

It was great to be a mighty Viking at William M. Raines all four years. Ichi Ban #1.
