Tears and Memories: The Passing of Art Foster

It is with great sadness that I report to you that our dear friend and beloved member of the coaching community, Art Foster, passed away last night. Art has been battling stomach cancer for much of the past year.

Art was the head coach at Miami Belen Jesuit Prep and founder of Miami's Alpha Omega Track Club. He did wonderful things for the youth in South Florida at both the high school and age group levels. This upstanding man fought for what was best for the kids, was a staunch supporter of this web site, and pioneer the expansion of the middle school state track & field championship series in the southern half of this state.

He leaves behind his wife Tammy, two-year-old son Austin, his daughter Char, and a great legacy of thousands of kids he has had an impact on over the years as a coach and meet director. Tammy is an elite 800 meter athlete. Char is perhaps the finest high school hurdler in the history of Florida.

We will miss you, Art.

Please leave your thoughts, prayers, and memories as comments to this article and we will pass it on to Art's family.

Update from one of his athletes:

Coach Foster's family is in great need of contributions to assist for their family's economic situation, considering the fact that the medical expenses have posed a tremendous toll on the family. Contributions to assist Foster's family would be greatly appreciated. Coach Foster was not only an incredible coach, but a mentor and idol in every sense of the word. More importantly he was a caring and loving father and husband..

If you wish to send a check towards Austin's Educational Trust Fund, please put a memo line on the check "For Austin Foster", make it out to:
