Gainesville's Lowery Looks Right Down The Road, Commits To Gators


Gainesville standout Blake Lowery committed to the University of Florida, capping off a high school career which included three state finals appearances in cross country and one in the 3200 in track. He holds PRs of 15:36.00 in cross country, 9:34.71 in the 3200 and 4:27.42 in the 1600. Lowery was also named to the 2015 All-Flrunners.com XC First Team after a senior season that included five wins, including a district and regional title, and a runner-up finish in the 3A State meet with a 15:46.79.

Flrunners.com: What made UF stand out to you? What other schools did you consider?

Blake Lowery: The relationship I formed with the other guys in the short time I got to know the UF guys really stood out. I was deciding between UF, Mississippi State, and Alabama.

FLR: What are you looking forward to about running on the collegiate level?

BL: The increased competition, it's going to really help me improve.

FLR: What will you miss most about competing at Gainesville and with your high school teammates?

BL: Having a close relationship with a couple of my teammates, so I know even if we all go to different places we have a bond that's gonna last through it.

FLR: What are your plans for the upcoming track season?


BL: Now that I don't have to worry about a college decision I can focus on improving myself and competing for an individual state championship.
