National Weekend Rundown for May 7

Tyrese Cooper's Sprint Sweep Headlines Florida State Championship

As an eighth-grader last spring, Tyrese Cooper's 100m, 200m, 400m sweep at the Florida Middle School State Championship vaulted him into the national spotlight. One year later, American High School freshman nearly replicated the feat at the high school state championships.

But the day started with a narrow loss -- Bryand Rincher of Piper High School won the 100m over Cooper, 10.67 to 10.68, into a -1.9 headwind.

Cooper came back to win the 200m in 20.87 (-0.3), over one full second ahead of runner-up Juvon Treasure, and the 400m in 46.34, two seconds ahead of runner-up Jamal Walton.
