UPDATE, 2:53 p.m. PT: Both USATF and Merritt's agency tweeted that Merritt is still doing the 400/200 double at the Olympics. It's unclear where TC Williams heard that Merritt was scratching, but that's apparently incorrect.
Noah Lyles might be going to Rio after all.
One day after placing fourth in the 200m finals at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. and setting the national high school record at 20.09, the Virginia native's high school track team tweeted the following:
LaShawn Merritt placed second in the 200m at Hayward Field yesterday, though he won the 400m during the first session and there was speculation on whether he would attempt the double in Rio. If Lyles does make the team, he would be one of the youngest in history to do so.
The move is not confirmed and neither Lyles nor Merritt could be reached for comment.
