Salute To Seniors: Carlin Berryhill- Coral Reef High School

The 2015-2016 school year has provided some great highlights in both cross country and track across the Sunshine State. In the coming weeks many of our seniors will head out to start their college careers both athletically and academically. We wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature and say thank you for your support over the years.

Flrunners.com: What was your most memorable race/moment?

Carlin Berryhill: My freshman year at the state track meet. The weather was horrible, my race time had been changed twice. I received a phone call from my coach telling me my race was being moved up. I was with my family and my uniform, shoes, everything was at the hotel.  Long story short I had to wear red shorts my coach borrowed from another team, the white t-shirt I was wearing and my coaches trainers.(which were two sizes to small). Out of 16 runners I placed 11th.

FLR: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

CB: Everyone that I competed against, every single race I had to work hard in order to place, so I would have to say everyone was my competition.

FLR: What was your greatest accomplishment?

CB: My junior year winning the 1,600m at the state championship in a close one.

FLR: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

CB: I would have run cross country my freshman year instead of playing junior varsity football.

FLR: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

CB: Losing my training partner Kurt Convey my senior year in high school, having to overcome sickness my entire senior year in both track and cross country, and lastly to overcome the defeat in the 4x800 relay this year at states.

FLR: What will you miss the most?

CB: I will miss running with my teammates, team breakfast, team dinners, and the out of town trips in the hotel.

FLR: What advice you would give to younger athletes?

CB: Believe in yourself, always stay positive and no matter what always stay hungry and humble.

FLR: What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

CB: All of my coaches impacted my life in a special way each and everyone of them believed in me when I didn't believe in myself and pushed me beyond limits and I can't thank them enough for that.

FLR: What are your college plans?

CB: I will be attending Florida Gulf Coast University in the fall to further my running career and I intend to study Sports Management. Go Eagles!! #Wingsup

FLR: Who would you like to say thank you to?

CB: I would like to say thank you to my brothers,  mom, dad and my girlfriend Jada Heron. Also my teammates, family, coaches and everyone who has followed me throughout my high school career thank you.

FLR: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

CB: Shout out to my bros FTF I love y'all and lastly I just want to say trust the training and trust the process. Never settle, be great, and always listen to your coaches because coaches know best. "Don't talk about it, be about it."
