Jamal Walton is comfortable on the international stage. As an eighth grader, Walton competed in his hometown of the Cayman Islands at the Cayman Invitational and since then has run at the CAC Junior Games, CARIFTA Games, 2014 IAAF World Junior Championship, and 2015 IAAF World Youth Championships where he placed 4th in a PR of 45.99. This week he will compete in the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships in Poland where he will face one of the most challenging fields in his career.
"My biggest competition would be Christopher Taylor, and Michael Norman for the 400m race. I won't let those names hold me back though. I'm going have to go out there and run my race an stay focused on the gold."
Walton will have his work cut out for him as his 45.99 PR is the 8th fastest time in the field with the two fastest marks coming at 44 seconds and change from Abdalelah Harouin of Qatar (44.27) and Baboloki Thebe of Botswana (44.22). He will be in the sixth and final heat in lane three and should be in good position to advance to the next round. The top three in each heat and and next six fastest time move on. He's just looking to drop his time and improve this week.
"I'm looking forward to PB at world juniors and come in top three on the podium."
