NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Florida redshirt freshman
Jack Guyton carried his summer success into Saturday's (Jan. 14) Commodore Invitational, clocking the fastest mile time by a Gator since 2011.
The Tampa, Fla. native took runner-up honors with in 4:02.37, the No. 8-ranked time on UF's all-time indoor top 10. Guyton's time is one of only three added to the program's all-time top 10 list in the mile since 2005.
Five-time All-American and 2016 Olympics 800 meters semifinalist
Andres Arroyo opened his campaign with a personal record in the mile as well. The Orlando, Fla. product and Puerto Rico native finished in 4:07.11, topping his previous PR (4:14.61) by 7.50 seconds.
Senior
Taylor Tubbs took fourth in the women's mile with a time of 4:47.00, which, among times entering this weekend's meets and Commodore Invitational results, ranks in the top 15 nationally.
Seven Gators made their collegiate debut or took part in their first indoor meet as a collegian this weekend, with freshman
Justin Pacifico turning in the top performance among the group. Pacifico, a Flagler Palm Coast High School alum, ran the 800 meters in 1:51.59, missing UF's all-time indoor top 10 list by 2.36 seconds.
Next on the docket for the Gators is a trip to the Hokie Invitational Friday (Jan. 20) and Saturday (Jan. 21) in Blacksburg, Va.
