McQuay Anchors United States to World-Leading Time

Tony McQuay and Novlene Williams-Mills are both expected to run 4x400 relay finals Sunday.
LONDON – Gator Great Tony McQuay (2010-12) anchored the United States' 4x400 relay team to a world-leading time (2:59.23) and a spot in Sunday's (Aug. 13) IAAF World Championships final.

McQuay split 44.73 seconds on the anchor leg.

The two-time World Championships 4x400 relay gold medalist could be called upon again for Sunday's final. Same goes for Jamaican team captain and six-time World Championships medalist Novlene Williams-Mills (2003-04), who rested as Jamaica ran the second-fastest time of the preliminaries and qualified for the final.

Relay teams have yet to be announced for the finals, but follow @GatorsTF on Twitter for updates.

Quote of the Day
"Winning feels great. The first race means shaking off those pre-race butterflies, seeing how the guys are going to come out, and then being able to come back and compete the next day. The crowd and atmosphere were great. Our coaches believe in us and we believe in ourselves. To come out with a world-leading time in the prelim, you can't ask for much better." –Tony McQuay on anchoring the United States 4x400 relay team to Sunday's final (courtesy of USATF)
