Jim Ryun Will Be At The flrunners.com Invitational 19!

The flrunners.com Invitational has grown into one of the largest high school cross-country events in the country. This year we are excited to announce that America's running legend, Jim Ryun, will be on hand at the meet to hand out awards to the invitational's top finishers.

Jim Ryun has been recognized by ESPN as the greatest high school athlete of all time. Ryun discovered running only after being cut from his church's baseball team and junior high basketball team. Determined to succeed, Ryun soon became the first-ever high school athlete to run a sub-four minute mile and competed in the Olympics as a high school junior.

Ryun went on to compete in the Olympics three times, winning a silver medal, and setting 6 World records and 10 American records! Today, his name remains synonymous with excellence in a demanding sport in which individual athletic achievement is often overshadowed by other high school team sports.

Ryun will also be on hand to introduce The Jim Ryun Watch List a new recognition program specifically designed for high school runners in the following events in which Ryun set World and American records: the Mile, 800 meters, and 3200 meters.

The Watch List seeks to honor high school runners with "earned apparel" and social recognition based on their own noteworthy achievements. The program is also designed to support the efforts as a coach to motivate runners to reach important milestones.
