Fresh off a wind-legal US No. 1 in the 200 meter dash last week in Jacksonville, Oak Hall's (FL) Tamari Davis was back to her record setting ways on Friday morning at The Pepsi Florida Relays.
The steely-eyed sophomore, who hails from Gainesville and was essentially competing in her back yard at the University of Florida, clipped off an easy-looking 11.32 in the preliminaries the day prior before coming back in the finals and dropping a meet record win of 11.27 seconds on a plus-2.0 wind--just at the legal cut-off for assistance.
Both of Davis' times would have broached US No. 1 status.
Her finals effort also surpassed the previous meet record best of 11.29 seconds, which was last set by Lake Wales' Octavious Freeman in 2011.
And for perspective, while Davis' times would have at least gotten her on the line in the collegiate final, she would have finished sixth overall.
No matter, it seems Davis is hitting an early stride in performance following her season 200m best of 23.06 (+0.2) seconds at the University of Northern Florida's Pre-State High School meet on March 23.
Davis will return to the track on Saturday to compete on her team's 4x400 relay. A week prior, she had split an open 55.83 time at Pre-State.
