Hicks Drops US No. 7 4:07.74 for 1-Mile

Bolles senior and Stanford signee, Charles Hicks, represented the sunshine state in a commanding fashion this weekend in the boys mile at the Music City Distance Carnival.

The multi-time state champion joined a stacked field in Tennessee with big names like Cole Sprout, Cruz Culpepper, and Carter Cheeseman leading into the race.

Hicks came through the first quarter in fifth place in a smooth 62 with the pacer taking them through right around 60 seconds.

At the 300m mark in the second lap, Hicks made move into fourth place to inch his way up to the leaders.

A few weeks back in May at the JAC Distance Classic, Hicks ran a huge PR of 4:07.39 1600m to win the race. After coming off a strong senior cross country and track season, Hicks has been eyeing the sub 4:05 barrier for awhile.

The leaders came through the 800m mark at 2:02 with Hicks cruising in fifth in 2:04 -- an even split for the senior.

Hicks made a move to be right behind Cheeseman through the first 1000m. The Stanford signee went through the third lap in another 62 second lap at 3:06.19 through 1200m.

As they came down the homestretch it was Cole Sprout and Cruz Culpepper of Colorado taking first and second place in a blistering 4:03.19 and 4:04.82.

Hicks came through the finish in seventh in a new mile PR of 4:07.74 -- a 4:06.30 converted 1600m.

Next up for the Florida distance standout will be the Brooks PR Invitational on June 15.
