The Spanish River cross country team, alumni, coaches, and parents embarked on a 500 mile virtual run to honor the front lines who are directly impacted by the Coronavirus daily.
"We met our goal of running 500 miles to thank the first responders, medical professionals, government officials, and essential business employees for their hard work during these unprecedented COVID-19 times," Spanish River Head Coach, Doug Horn, said in a Facebook post.
The goal for the school located in the epicenter of the Florida outbreak was to take the time on Saturday 4/18 to honor the front lines by practicing social distancing, running on their own, yet staying a part of a virtual community with their team.
Participants needed to have GPS logged miles while representing the Spanish River XC and track teams.
Collectively the team, parents, coaches, and alumni totaled to 67 people, ran over the entire length of the state of Florida -- coming in at 509.6 miles.
