BETHLEHEM, Pa.
- The University of South Florida cross country teams ran well but found the competition tough at the 36th annual Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh. The women's squad took 28th in the top-tier gold division, while the men's team finished 14th in the middle-tier brown division.

Competing on Lehigh's Goodman Cross Country Course, a 6k layout, sophomore Nicole Rozario posted the top time for the Bulls for the third meet in a row in 2009 with a time of 21:24, taking 39th overall out of a total of 363 runners.

The sophomore class continued to post top times for the Bulls, as Yasmin Smith and Allie Prendergast followed suit. Smith ran the race in 21:52 for 92nd place, while Prendergast finished 125th with a time of 22:11.

Fellow classmates Jen Wynands and Shaniel Chambers rounded out the top 5 for USF, with Wynands posting a mark of 22:57, and Chambers finishing in 23:27. The trio of Smith, Prendergast and Wynands has finished 2-3-4 for USF in all three meets this season.

The Invitational marked the only 6k course the Bulls will run before the BIG EAST Championships Oct. 31. A total of 41 teams ran in the gold division.

On the men's side, senior Ryan Courtoy posted the top overall time for the Bulls in the 8k race for the second time this season, posting a mark of 26:09, good for 53rd among the division's 323 runners. He was joined by two other teammates in finishing in the top 100.

Junior Pedro Carela used a mark of 26:16 to finish as the 65th-fastest runner, while freshman Felix Soto was close behind in 26:24 for 85th.

Also finishing in less than 27 minutes were sophomore Phillip Wise (26:33), senior Robert Sudduth (26:42) and sophomore Lucas Simari (26:47).

A total of 38 teams ran in the brown division.

The Bulls will be on the road again next week, when the team travels up to Orlando, Fla., to take part in the Disney Invitational Oct. 10 beginning at 7:45 a.m.
