Cross Country Countdown: FHSAA 3A Boys

WATCH 2019 FHSAA 3A STATE MEET REPLAY

The lack of a full 2020 outdoor track and field season will add to the suspense for this upcoming cross country season. While drastic leaps in performances cannot be accurately predicted, we took a look at who could likely make elite moves on the cross country course this fall.

Disclaimer: Individual classes [1A, 2A, 3A, 4A] could and will likely look very different this season with the opt in option given by the FHSAA. This scouting report is based off all the current 1A member schools and individuals.

Here is the scouting report for FHSAA 3A boys.

Key Teams

Potential Break-out Performers

After winning their 11th state title, the Belen Jesuit boys bring back their top three, and boy will they be tough to beat this season. Javier Vento, Adam Magoulas, and Diego Gomez lead the Belen team with their sub-16 minute 5k PR's on the Apalachee Regional Park course from last season and put the Wolverines in a cruising position to make history with a 12th team title this November.

Expect to see Jackson Yarbrough, Mac Updike, Franisco Ramirez, and Aiden Arnold challenging Belen's top three as they return as the remaining top ten from last year's state meet. These four all went sub 16:20 at last year's state meet and all, with the exception of Yarbrough, enter their senior season in 2020.

Colsen Palmer and Liam Holston will fight to lead their Fort Myers team to a podium finish this season with their predicted 16:43 team average. They'll have to hold off Adam Dieck of Tampa Jesuit and Lucas Bougquot of Ponte Vedra -- both teams have a 1-5 split under the 1:10 range and are in close contention with Fort Myers to take a podium spot later this fall.

Keep your eyes on Nicholas Hidalgo, Jake Rogers, and Colby Robbins to do big things this season. Hidalgo comes in with a 16:06 5k PR that he ran at team regionals last season, Rogers holds a 15:54 PR on the New World Fall Spectacular course, and Colby Robbins ran a 16:09 at his conference meet back in October of last year. All are capable of going sub 16-minutes on the Apalachee Regional Park course after a strong base this summer.
