Mid-Distance State Champion Picks University of Florida


Canterbury state champion Jessica Edwards announced her commitment to the University of Florida on Thursday.

The future Gator took to Instagram to announce the news. 

Edwards is one of the best middle distance recruits coming out of Florida for the class of 2021 with a 2:08.40 800m PR and 5:00.13 1600m PR.

The Canterbury senior topped her sophomore season with two state titles in both the 1600m and 800m for the 2019 season. She came back in cross country to run a new 5k PR of 18:24 at the North Port Invitational and then finish sixth at the 1A State Championship.

This season, the future Gator is eyeing another top 10 finish in cross country to cap off her Florida cross career. She recently finished sixteenth in the premier FLRunners.com Invitational Race of Champions. 

Coming up this weekend, Edwards is scheduled to race at the Viking Invitational where she is set to lead the field. She joins Fort Lauderdale's Michael Fiore and Newsome's Keleigh Scallon as part of Florida's early recruiting class of 2021.
